“Fabulous hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

We didn't mean to stay in this hotel at all! Original we booked the samaya ubud villa via their online web engine, but it turned out that their web server made a mistake and allowed us to book a room that wasn't available for our entire stay. The hotel contacted us and offered to let us stay in the seminyak location for a cheaper price, for the nights when there was no availability in ubud. We cannot find any faults in the service and the facility. The private pool was big enough to swim in, the villa was well designed and the breakfast was very yummy. We even got a free transfer to the ubud location by the hotel. I highly recommend this hotel, unless for personal reason you prefer to stay in a room with a view of the beach.

We have just returned from 10 days at Samaya, we had stayed there in March and had to return in December because we had enjoyed it so much. Our first stay was in the Courtyard Villas, they are beautiful and we felt like we were living in the local village ( in five star luxury). This time we stayed in the new poolside villa so it was great to be so close to the beach. Yes, reviews will let you know how beautiful the resort is and the fantastic staff who are outstanding and that the food is divine. One of the other superb qualities of the place is that you feel so safe and secure. I have never felt so comfortable totally at home in a resort. To start the day with a Samaya breakfast looking over the beach is absolute heaven.
How many Resort managers have you met staying in resorts or hotels? Well when you stay at Samaya you will meet Ray, please give him my Best Regards

We recently stayed 4 days here for our honeymoon and it was an awesome experience. Mere words alone can't adequately describe the superb level of service and beauty this resort has to offer. Many "5 star" hotels and resorts may impress travelers with their architectural magnificence or environmental beauty but peel away those superficial layers lies the most important aspect (well, to me anyway).. and that is service. We had high expectations and the Samaya team didn't disappoint, far from it.

It was a jaw dropping experience being ushered into our villa. The carefully arranged flower petals in the entrance and in the jacuzzi were sweet but seeing a specially-made cheese cake wishing us happy honeymoon with our names on the coffee table really touched us. The furnishings and amenities are superb and of high quality and the luxuriousness of the villa meant we were more than happy to spend almost our entire time within. We also ordered most of our meals from the beach side restaurant (Breeze) and I must say that the food is marvelous.

I'm a very picky traveler and usually can nitpick over the smallest issues but I'm struggling to find anything negative to say about the Samaya... oh yes, one minor complaint. The drain was a bit clogged in the indoor shower room but wasn't a big deal as we normally used the outdoor shower. I mentioned this in the feedback card when we checked out and Mr. Clark e-mailed us soon after and assured us that he'll get his team to fix it so hopefully future guests in villa 1062 won't find a pool of soapy water while showering. :-)

In summary, the Samaya is probably the best resort we've ever had the pleasure in staying. Definitely highly recommended and should we return to Bali we'll definitely stay there again.

Best resort i have stayed so far in Asia. Having stayed at all the top resorts and hotels around asia, Samaya has been the best. The service and beauty has been described by fellow reviewers, but u got to stay there to actually believe it.

Its beauty and perfection all the way. Thanks to the team of samaya, for making my honeymoon absolute bliss. Its actually a honeymoon dream. My msg to all indians who visit bali, if u have the bucks, pls experience samaya.

We stayed at The Samaya 2.5 years ago and our expectations were not met. Ray had requested we contact him the next time we travel to Bali. We did and he requested we stay again so he could make it right and have the opportunity to show the standards he expects (he was not at the resort the previous stay).

Well! We can say for certain this experience was what we hoped for the 1st time - and more!

Villa
The villas have all be updated and modernised. We were actually given a choice of villas - either the pool/beach side or the royal courtyard villas. They were both amazing. We opted for the beach side #108 (you could hear the waves crashing at night). The villa was huge - the biggest bathroom you could imagine, the bed exceptionally comfortable as were the pillows. We thought the garden / pool area at the royal courtyard villa was actually more enticing but hard to say no to being so close to the beach.

Service
From the moment we arrived until the lift to the airport the service was a standout. I'm not sure if Ray had strict instructions for the staff, but the friendliness, professionalism and attentiveness were excellent. A lot of the staff knew us by name and made us feel valued. One of the managers took us on a trip to the local temple and he was fabulous.

Beach front
We highly recommend sitting at sunset on the beachfront to watch the sun set! Most nights we would order some snacks and drinks and enjoy the ocean and sky line.

Food & drinks
Last time we visited we were not that impressed with the food or coffee. This time is was totally reversed. They had a very comprehensive vegetarian / vegan menu - you could tell they made a real effort to be creative and thoughtful. Both breakfast and high tea were excellent. Coffee had also vastly improved from last visit. As a comparison we have since stayed at The Sarojin (Phuket) and their breakfast does not compare.

Tip: You must ask for a fresh mango juice no ice, water or sugar - simply thick and delicious.

Little treats were also left at turn down service. Very nice touch.

Overall we had lovely time and the only pitfall was that we need to lower our expectations of rooms, service and food as we continue our travelling holiday!

PS Make sure you meet Ray because he is a real character (apparently enjoys Thai food a lot!)

Room Tip: Hard to choose - beachside excellent, whereas the other side of the road the gardens/pool of the vil...

My wife and I had our honeymoon at The Samaya between the 3rd of December - 10th December! It was an absolute dream! We were completely blown away by the service, the quality, the culture, the staff and our rooms!

We started each day with breakfast daily, which was absolutely 5 star quality. The staff were always extremely nice, with a lifestyle and mentality of serving, absolutely next level stuff. Our main butler widhee was so helpful, so accommodating and met every need my wife and I had. On one ocassion we had a conversation and I thanked him for being so helpful etc and he replied saying that he is still learning and that he is here to serve and make us feel at home. It was amazing to hear that and to experience such service and such a passion for what he is doing. He even put in our room after dinner frangipanis lining the entrance of our door, in our room and in the jacuzzi in the shape of hearts - so romantic.

The staff were totally on top of everything, every staff member knew our names and what we were doing, made us feel like royalty and accommodated for. They were friendly, always had a smile on their face. The room was cleaned twice a day and was always left spotless, the food was great, the facilities were also great.

It is perfectly located and has a shortcut to the main strip in seminyak through the little walkway outside the royal courtyard villas. Would totally recommend for anyone to stay at, my wife and I had our dream honeymoon that we have always wanted!

IT WAS AN ABSOLUTE DREAM, Thank you The Samaya! We will be back soon!

Room Tip: Royal Courtyard villas offer great privacy, Room number 308 was a dream!

From the moment we stepped off the plane we were greeted by a private car to this most amazing villa establishment. We stayed for our wedding anniversary and felt as though we were treated like royalty!

Once we arrived at the Samaya Villa we were greeted by friendly staff that explained the runnings of the room and the facilities and what was pleasantly included in our stay (despite getting a cheaper rate from agoda!) we stayed in villa 220 on the beachside of the property. The room was fantastic with our own lap pool and stunning bathroom. Inclusions were free wifi, a la carte breakfast daily, afternoon tea daily, shuttle to from airport and surrounding areas of seminyak and legian. The whole time we were greeted by name and made to feel very special.

On our second day Ray Clark greeted us at breakfast and congratulated us on our anniversary and we commended him and his staff/"family" for their outstanding service. Nothing was too much trouble!

We were pleasantly surprised on our return to the room after breakfast to find frangipanis lining our entrance, anniversary cake and fruits, flowers in the room and also in the jacuzzi in the shape of hearts - it was magical!

We cannot fault the rooms, staff, ambience and setting of this fantastic place and given we usually prefer to spend our holidays in Thailand despite the longer distance, this is certainly a hotel we would happily return to and recommend again and again and again!!!
