Through an Indonesian travel website, we booked a honeymoon 3 day 2 nights package with Uma Sapna which included free breakfasts, one candlelight dinner, one 15 min massage, one-hour spa for couples with airport transfers, which was a good deal.
I was happy to see my name card held up at the airport arrivals by the Uma Sapna driver and was looking forward to see the villa upon reading many positive reviews on the web. The drive from the airport to the villas took around 15 minutes and after some winding through a few narrow local lanes, we arrive at a small car park which forms the simple and tucked away entrance of Uma Sapna.
Upon checking in, we were upgraded to the private pool villa (Komodo) which was nicely decorated with fresh rose petals for our honeymoon stay. Having a private pool in our villa was nice, but disappointingly, we decided to keep our bathing suits on as we are able to see next door through wooden doors which separate us from the adjacent villa.
The villa layout and amenities are quite nice, but the TV was too small and our bed sheets, although laundered, had stains. We ordered room service which took nearly two hours to deliver and after a few calls, an explanation relating to kitchen problems was finally given. We had to chase after our room service repeatedly, puzzled as there were no apologies or explanation from the staff. Quite famished, we are still quite pleased to find that the food looked and tasted good.
Uma Sapna offers Balinese, American and Continental breakfasts which we all tasted and found to be above average. On our second night, the staff set up our candlelight dinner next to the pool, which was a selection of seafood and chicken that we requested upon check-in. It would have been nice if the dinner offered local Balinese cuisine or presentation, but the staff was quite efficient and considerate in setting up the dinner, which also involved candles in the garden, so it was quite a highlight of our stay.
The next day our free 1-hour spa was an oil massage which was average, as was the service and spa surroundings.
The location of Uma Sapna makes it a little daunting to wander out of the narrow alleys it is located in. The service also leaves room for improvement, which makes Uma Sapna feels like a superior local bed and breakfast. Although it offers villas at competitive rates which offer private pools that lack complete privacy (at least in ours), a good selection of breakfast, amateurish service, offering only a glimpse of spontaneous Bali hospitality and special touches of detail that makes me long to return.
