“Nice Place but has its Hickeys”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2012

Luxury hotel geared towards wealthy tourists. Good: right on the ocean, grounds are very pretty, fancy enough for fancy people. We stayed in a villa which was really great, nice marble floors, comfy bed, living room, small front yard w/jacuzzi (note: if you get a villa, get a pool villa as the jacuzzi isn't hot so kind of pointless). It would be hard not to enjoy staying here. Good pool for kids. Bad: 1. Not the hotel's fault at all, but beach is very dirty, tar like black sand. Good for surfing but not for general beach going. 2. Service in restaurants is lousy and inattentive. 3. The Seminyak area itself is not the most desirable place to stay. Not that much outside the hotel (a couple cheesy clubs, some tourist geared clothes boutiques, a few decent restaurants but nothing life changing). The Ubud region, while not on the ocean, is a much better place to stay to experience Bali. 3. It has a very "resort" feel, the only contact with locals is them grinning and serving you. if you're the kind of tourist that really likes the natives smiling big and kowtowing while you lounge poolside, you'll dig it. If you want a more mellow experience that's less colonialist in nature, I'd look elsewhere. After a while all the bells and whistles seem a bit unnecessary and you can probably stay in a place that's more low key, "local" feeling, and a lot cheaper and enjoy your trip just as much.

Room Tip: Pool villas are pricy but very enjoyable.

Nice hotel. Great location and lovely pool which was what we were after as the beach is horrible! That said, it's a nice outlook and good for a sundowner.
Have to say it's showing it's age a little. Our room was looking rather worn. Only other minor gripe is that the pool service was always so slow and poolside fare was very average and expensive. Had an awesome lunch by the pool at 'Cocoon' for about the same price.
Breakfast was OK. Nothing special.
Would consider staying again at the right price as we like to be close to the action and enjoy the pool with our toddler. But have to be honest that I'm a little surprised at all the maximum scores this place gets on tripadvisor. Good, but certainly not awesome!

This Hotel is great in a large variety of ways. The cost/value is excellent, since being a 5 star hotel, it still offers much more competitive prices than other 5 star hotels in the area. The Hotel grounds are beautiful, with direct access to the beach, and a lovely Swimming pool garden.

You have surf board rental located right at the hotel exit to the beach, that comes in handy if you want to surf a bit.

The room (i think it was a superior room) was excellent, the mattress was so comfortable that you could really enjoy your night sleep. The rooms are well decorated, not at all old as I've read in some of the reviews.

The staff was also very friendly, and the Hotel location is excellent, right on the beach, but close to everything.

In fact I would recommend this hotel if not for one thing, it's breakfast. I could not understand how a 5 star hotel located in a tropical island wouldn't offer fresh juices for breakfast. Also, the variety of fruit that was offered was limited, and it didn't taste good at all!

Finally, they offer a lot of Indonesian traditional food for breakfast, but I'm not really interested in eating rice, noodles or soup just after waking up...

Hope this can assist you in your choice.

Room Tip: They have private villas, and regular rooms. We stayed at a room in the main building, on the ground...

We spent 7 days at this hotel and we were pleasantly surprised. Very clean, good service, friendly staff and excellent pool facilities. The Tapas evening is highly recommended for about $18 per person inclusive on e get a large variety of dishes at the highest quality. Well done.
