“Always nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2014

It is a lovely hotel with excellent customer service. It appears a bit away from the action but it doesn't take long to be at beach or around Seminyak Square. Only had breakfast there and was not fantastic, but such as small part of the day that it didn't matter. WiFi was pretty average during day early night hours. Lovely pools, overall a very nice hotel with amasing staff.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms seem to be nicer, but they are all really comfortable and spacious.

I stayed here with my boyfriend for two nights and wished we could have stayed longer!

The hotel grounds are beautiful, nice gardens and the pool area is very nice.

The bungalow was lovely, the most comfortable bed and pillows I had whilst staying in Bali!

The staff are very very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: The Bungalows were great. AC works good, outdoor bathroom is nice.

The first couple of days were great, exactly what we had expected. Food a little average, but everything we had expected in a 3star resort. However, We got a little surprise on our second last night. His name was 'mi gorengy'. At About 2am my partner and I were woken to a loud rustling sound in the room. We quickly turned the light on but couldn't see anything, then minutes later we heard it again. We found a hole in the side of the roof!! And soon realised that a rat was coming in and stealing our mi goreng noodles!!!
We called reception, took us a while to get them to understand (their English wasn't great) 25 mins later after another phone call, two men arrive with a makeshift trap! They placed the trap near the hole and put food in it! Then they left, leaving us very confused as now the rat was going to be attracted to the food then trapped in our room!?!
4am woke up to loud rustling again.. Rat doesn't like the look of the food in the trap, it's back for the mi goreng!! Called reception again told them we need another room as was getting ridiculous!! 30 mins later a man arrives to take us to it. So at 4.30am we had to move rooms! Got up the next morning and went and complained, of course no apology or refund was given for our sleepless night. Not the best ending really... :(

We arrived a what looked like a lovely hotel, a beautiful pool area and some really nice families that we chatted to whilst enjoying our welcome drinks. We had already filled out the paperwork and the front desk had taken copies of our passports. We were just waiting to be shown to our room. After about 10 minutes one of the hotel staff comes to ask us to sit down, he has something he wants to explain. We were told that there had been some botched repair work in one of the rooms which resulted in water damage to a few of the rooms, ours was one.
We were then told that they had upgraded us and made arrangements on our behalf for us to be moved to the kokonut suites.
We were really disappointed that we were moved somewhere else. The kokonut suites was also really disappointing. The pool was really average, the hotel was very quiet with no atmosphere and the staff were not particularly warm or friendly. We didn't enjoy our stay there at all and checked out the next day.

We spent much time researching where to stay in Bali and chose Vila Lumbung for its facilities, resort feel and lush garden setting. We wanted to relax and not do very much! It's therefore very disappointing that I have to write this poor review.

We'd prearranged a transfer from the airport to meet us from our long international flight and advised of our late arrival at 22:00.

We were met by the driver and all went very smoothly until about half way to the hotel, he turns around and tells us that unfortunately the room we booked is unavailable and would we mind him taking us to another hotel instead. Having travelled extensively in Asia, I thought that this must be a con and insisted the driver take us to our hotel. After-all we had a confirmed booking, made over a month in advance.

On arrival at Vila Lumbung we were met by the night receptionist who was polite and friendly but clearly had no clue. He confirmed there were no rooms available, he was unable to confirm when our room might become available. Our only option was to go to the alternative hotel (apparently a sister hotel of the same company) and come back to Lumbung sometime between 9-11am the next morning when a manager might be able to speak with us. The worst thing was the complete lack of comprehension as to why we should be in anyway annoyed that our pre-booked room was unavailable.

The alternate hotel was Vasanti, which was very nice, but much more a hotel than the deluxe garden villa that we had booked. Our frustrations grew further when checking in to Vasanti. The receptionist states that Lumbung has booked us to stay 4 nights at Vasanti and we would be moved to Lumbung for our final night.

By this point tired and frustrated, we explained that this was unacceptable. The receptionist at Vasanti at least understood our complaint and stated that they would try and sort things the next morning. We were also told that for the inconvenience the first nights stay would be deducted from our bill.

The next morning we spoke to a different receptionist at Vasati who was the first helpful person we met. She agreed to ring Lumbung and sort things out for us. At 11am we were told that Lumbung did have a room, and that they would transfer us across at 2pm. Our first morning in Bali was therefore disrupted whilst we waited around for this to happen.

On arrival at Lumbung we were welcomed but nobody apologised for the disruption to our holiday. We were taken to our room (a downstairs deluxe bungalow) which was exactly as we'd booked. The room was comfortable and clean, with a nice good sized bathroom. The pool area was exactly as described and the staff were attentive and professional. At this point we again agreed with reception that the first nights stay would be deducted from our bill as compensation for the inconvenience; we were satisfied with this outcome and happy to continue with our holiday.

We had an otherwise enjoyable stay until our very last morning when it came to settle our bill, noticing that not only had they already charged my credit card used to confirm the booking, but also they had failed to deduct the first night as offered. We pointed out their mistake, but were told rather abruptly that they had no record of this and that as we had used the facilities of the other hotel we were not entitled to any compensation.

I again pressed that this had been promised to us by a number of staff and insisted the lady call a manager. The manager agreed that he knew nothing of this, that we were entitled to nothing, but as a gesture of good will they would pay our taxi to the airport, amounting to less than 15% of a nights stay.

Angry but with very little option as they had already charged my card we left for the airport. I've subsequently emailed a detailed complaint on two occasions which so far has been very successfully ignored.

For a hotel that claims to be 4* this kind of service is atrocious. I recognise that sometimes things go wrong and rooms get doubled booked, but this situation was created by a lack of communication, lack of recognition that they had in any way inconvenienced us and a complete disregard of the promises they had made to us. This is unacceptable.

In spite of our otherwise enjoyable stay, we really can't recommend staying here as you simply don't know when you book where you might end up. I think we were far from the only people complaining during our stay, perhaps suggesting a more systemic and fundamental problem with poor management.

Our first trip to Bali and picked this one ourselves. Rooms were clean, staff are brilliant, food is ok but not for a coeliac like me, pool area is just perfection (we wanted green resort style pool and we found it! Swim up bar too). Good pick for everyone (families, business, friends).
There's a spa also. The only difficulties we found was that there is no carpet in the halls as the sound echoed (slamming doors in the morning are an issue) and as the pool is so central the screaming children woke us nice and early. But nothing that wouldn't have me come back as the place itself is so central to everything! Try it out.
