“Great Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

With so many restaurants to choose from in Bali. It really is hard to weed out the ones you want to stay clear of. Sometimes its hit and miss and that's where you can rely on comments from other travellers. My wife looked on TripAdvisor and came across The Bistrot in Seminyak so we thought we would give it a try. We got a taxi there and were greeted at the door by a lovely lady - who asked if we had a booking - nope lol - but not to worry they found us a table for two - in the non smoking section downstairs. Smokers are sent up stairs apparently - makes sense, really. The only downside to this is the toilets are up there but your well away from the smokers. The décor was very interesting with shelves attached to the wall with old TV's, sewing machines, radios etc - things that you don't see every day nowadays. The service was prompt and once they had your drinks orders - left you in peace - and as if by some form of unspoken communication they re-appear to ask if you would like to order. The kitchen is visible through the glass windows from downstairs, with a flurry of people working away preparing the nights meals. The first time we went I ordered squid as an entrée - a simple meal really but you can really get it wrong if you over cook it or under cook it. It was cooked to perfection done in bread crumbs which were golden brown - not burnt and definitely not chewy. The main meals were quite large and again cooked exactly the way you asked for it. The drinks were cold and you can always ask for a small ice bucket to put your beer in to keep it that way. We enjoyed it so much - we actually went back there on our last day - I took my mum and she was just as impressed as we were. Overall the meals and drinks were quite reasonable - about $40 AUD for 2 people (3 bintangs, 3 glasses of wine entrée and main. And with 3 of us with entrees, mains and drinks $75 AUD - much better value than some of the more upper market restaurants in Bali. I would definitely recommend this place
