We went to the French Kitchen after looking on Tripadvisor. This has usually been a successful strategy but sadly not this time.
It was very quiet when we went with only one other table occupied so the atmosphere was not great. It has been described as romantic but I think it is a little jaded and on the walls it looks like holes or marks have been quite badly patched up. The music was very low which usually is a good thing but as the restaurant was so quiet and the 3 staff were stood at the counter (which was about a metre away from us ) we felt very conspicuous and didn't feel as if we could talk freely or feel relaxed.
The table cloth was very dirty with numerous stains and marks on it. I think we should have left when we saw that but we had travelled a long way and really wanted to try this place so we foolishly over looked it.
The food was at best average, not awful but not interesting or inspiring at all. There were several items on the menu which were not available and this may have been as a result of it being so quiet. The staff were very sweet and seemed as uncomfortable with the ambience as we were.
It may well be that at busier times of the year the menu is complete and the ingredients fresher so perhaps we were unlucky.
I think that if you do go there check out the table cloths and if they don't look too clean then it's time to leave!
