“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

We went to the French Kitchen after looking on Tripadvisor. This has usually been a successful strategy but sadly not this time.
It was very quiet when we went with only one other table occupied so the atmosphere was not great. It has been described as romantic but I think it is a little jaded and on the walls it looks like holes or marks have been quite badly patched up. The music was very low which usually is a good thing but as the restaurant was so quiet and the 3 staff were stood at the counter (which was about a metre away from us ) we felt very conspicuous and didn't feel as if we could talk freely or feel relaxed.
The table cloth was very dirty with numerous stains and marks on it. I think we should have left when we saw that but we had travelled a long way and really wanted to try this place so we foolishly over looked it.
The food was at best average, not awful but not interesting or inspiring at all. There were several items on the menu which were not available and this may have been as a result of it being so quiet. The staff were very sweet and seemed as uncomfortable with the ambience as we were.
It may well be that at busier times of the year the menu is complete and the ingredients fresher so perhaps we were unlucky.
I think that if you do go there check out the table cloths and if they don't look too clean then it's time to leave!

“Can't keep away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

Yet again we are drawn back to sample the great food offered at the French kitchen.
Standouts were the vegetable soup with smokey bacon and the old fashioned tenderloin cooked to perfection.
My friends had some of their old favourites and were not disappointed.
The creme brûlée was again memorable but would like to see creme caramel on the menu.
The only downside at the kitchen is the hard chairs and the need for a minor paint job to create a bit more atmosphere.
We will be back.

“The French Kitchen - We will certainly be back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

Discovering French Kitchen in Kerobokan was a happy gastronomical experience indeed. Good food...a dinner for 3 with 3 bottles of sparkling water and 2 fruit juices..no wines. The total bill came to around US$70 including tax and service charges. Service was excellent and the ambiance was cosy.
Our menu comprised:-
1. Fresh home baked bread came sitting on a bed or hot stones.
2. Appetizer - Grilled quail (9/10)
3. Appetizer - Escargot (8/10)
4. Appetizer - Deep fried mushrooms (8/10)
5. Main course - Rabbit pasta (6/10)
6. Main course - Honey duck breast (9/10)
7. Main course - Mini steaks …local beef (7/10)
8. Dessert - Profiteroles in dark chocolate (8/10)
9. Dessert - Apple layers with home made ice cream (9/10)

Overall score 8.5/10

“Excellent and most value for money french bistro”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

I was recommended this restaurant by a friend who list this as his favorite french restaurant in Bali. We were not disappointed. The meal we had was excellent. We had 4 starters, 4 mains and 2 deserts for the price of about USD75. This is great value for the fantastic meal we had. I would like to complement the chef especially for the escargot and the onglet steak. They were simply delicious!

“A Friendly French Restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

Well, I am a first timer at The French Kitchen.
It's been recommended by my colleague, however, it's been a while until I got my chance.

First impression, a light decorated bistro made you feel home.
The service was good, attentive server made our light dinner felt comfortable.
Friendly price compared to nearby French Restaurant and for sure with different quality and ambiance.

Anyway, my friend recommendation was Escargot that she said to die for.
We went with Escargot to share, Pan Seared Foie Gras to share, a weird combination of Shrimp & Pork meatball and Slow Chicken.
The recommended one?
Definitely, Escargot.
Foie Gras felt too stiff and dry, then Pork overpowered the shrimp (not a kind of dish to be re-ordered).

Consider to return for the Escargot treats.
