“Excellent Property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2014

We stayed 3 nights in a one bedroom deluxe villa (number 25). The villa itself is lovely, absolutely true to professional photos. The pool is a decent size and at the deepest 1.4m, nice to have the cabana too. As others have noted the staff here are wonderful, polite friendly and quick to action my single request. The location of this property is great, quiet, away from downtown chaos but close to good restaurants (e.g. Sarong, Sardine), bars (e.g. Potato Head) and close to Seminyak shopping. Breakfast can be served in your villa or at Mase, and if you want room service otherwise the prices are very very reasonable (unlike some high end chains where room service prices are offensive). If you want total privacy, this is it. I get the feeling that the villas would suit couples more than families. The only suggestion I have to improve is to upgrade the bath towels. We will definitely be back to Maca Villas!

We stayed here for 5 nights and almost everything was perfect.

We got out of the airport at 12:30pm and were greeted by the best-dressed driver who was in smart traditional-styled uniform. He whisked us away and half an hour through the wide roads and narrow streets of Bali saw us arriving at Maca Villa and Spa. Maca is not situated on a main road along with some of the other larger hotels / villas. It is on a smaller side road and it's location actually surprised me because it doesn't seem very big from the front. The foyer is set up outside right on the doorstep and the impression it gives is just lovely and inviting. We were served mocktails and refreshed with cold, scented towels. Even though we were early, they were very accommodating and checked us into our room 2 hours ahead of time. We really appreciated it.

The Mase Restaurant (which fed us some excellent food during our stay was right by the foyer and next to the public pool. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming and the look of the place was lush, verdant, classy and clean. Even the path to the villa has the feel of a remote tropical jungle. I really didn't mind the location of Maca Villa and Spa even though it isn't right on the beach. We come from Western Australia where some of the world's best beaches are so we weren't bothered by not having one readily accessible. Why bother when you have your own perfect little pool in your villa compound? However, I do believe that the beach is a short walk away. It's also a quiet location and even though the public pool and Mase Restaurant is almost right by the road, you don't hear the traffic and the feeling of remote tranquility is always present.

We were shown to our villa which was a little bit of private paradise behind a locked door. It was perfect in almost every way. Our butler took the time to show us through the villa and all the remote controls available to use the three televisions (one in the bedroom, one in the bathroom and one in the lounge room), to access the movies, the air conditioning units and the fan. The villa was immaculate (so clean that the floors squeaked) and although it showed some signs of wear and tear, it did nothing to detract from the overall beauty and use of the place. We only ever saw one mosquito the entire time we were there so no real issues there.

We had our own pool to swim in but if you wanted something less extensive, then we also had an option of a large, deep bathtub to use. The villa was encased by glass on one side so that it maximised the beautiful view including the water wall feature that fed our pool. Everything is so well thought out here. Even the coffee table was a piece of art being the polished petrified wood that it was.

I can't praise the staff at Maca enough for their excellent service. They all spoke English well and we never had any troubles communicating with them. They responded to every request promptly and efficiently. The wait staff would have a chat with us during breakfast and dinner and this served to make us feel more like a part of Bali instead of just visitors. When our driver ran late, they happily rang him for us to find out his ETA. Maca runs a shuttle service to Seminyak Square (but be advised that they only drop guests off. They do not do a pick up service. You can either walk back to the hotel or take a taxi back which will cost you approximately 40K rupiah).

The only negative to Maca Villa and Spa is the comfort level of the bed. Asian tourists, feel free to disregard this section of the review since most of you are used to very firm beds. The beds at Maca are firm - VERY firm. In fact, it's almost like a lying on a piece of concrete that was cut from the floor slab of a house. Sleeping on it was like being interred in a marble mausoleum. To this day, I still do not understand why Asians love planks for mattresses and I can not fathom how I once found these beds comfortable. I certainly don't anymore and if I forget, my hips and back remind me. To all side sleepers - you'll find the couch much more comfortable. To all back sleepers and lovers of firm mattresses - you have nothing to worry about and much to rejoice over.

Would we recommend this place? VERY MUCH SO! Would we return? Try to stop me!!!

We will never forget this experience. Our first time to Bali, picked up by Maca staff waiting for us at the airport. Greeted by a warm smile we were on a comfortable ride to Maca and again, received welcome drink and a lovely flower bouquet!

Then we arrived at our pool villa, it was so big and beautiful, same as on the website! The pool is bigger than I expected, the bed and bath were decorated with flowers. So romantic!

We stayed 4 nights and every morning, we enjoyed our little paradise. Jumped to the pool directly from our room , it is amazing that the villa was surrounded by high walls with plants, that you feel a great sense of privacy. We have our lovely breakfast (with lots of choices) in our room, tasty and never boring...

It is all about the details, the friendly attitude, attentive and efficient service. There was one evening , we want to swim at night but found some nights in the pool were not functioning, it was almost mid night, 2 staff came and help fixed for us.....almost one hour they worked. We were really impressed.

Another day, we turned on the music when we left the room, when we came back, the music was still on.. lovely.......it is really the small things that make the difference.

The restaurant was great too, I love the atmosphere. From time to time, we saw there were different performances....Bali dance, live music. Food was good with great value. I will say one of the best that we ever tried in Bali.

One day we would like to go to Ubud. So we asked them and they said there is day tour service. So we booked and the driver took us to Ubud, there was some traffic and took more than 1 hour but since the car was comfortable, no problem at all. Very good service by driver, we walked around by ourselves in monkey forest, elephant cave and the famous rice terrace. It was great and driver always there waiting for us and answer all the questions we have.

In Maca, everyone is wearing a smile, we have a most memorable time and experience the warmth of Bali. Thank you from our hearts!

Room Tip: choose one with plenty of sunshine - if you prefer of course!

My friend and I stayed at Maca for 5 nights & were not disappointed!
Pros
- 3 tv's - even one in the bathroom
- very good layout - beautiful rooms
- service is flawless
- spa was amazing - highly recommend a massage
- shuttle service is amazing, always happy to drive you
- great location. Not to far from centre but far away enough to be away from the hassle & bustle
- room service was yum, but breaky was kind of avg (but above avg for hotel breakies in Bali)
- great bathroom amenities
- there is an Aircon in bedroom and lounge room, so villa always cool

Cons
- the sun is hit and miss. The way the villas are built, we only had sun from 1-4pm daily. However you can use the shared pool in morning
- bath towels definitely need to be replaced!
- slight cracks in villa which allows mossies in but wasn't a problem as they fumigate & use the coils

Overall maca was fantastic! Did not want to leave!! You will not regret staying here!

Ps: I also highly recommend to go to w hotel for at least 1 day and use their pool facilities. It's $30 aus a day, but $15 can be used for drinks.

The good:
*The service was first-rate; best we had from our three hotels in Bali; all butler requests (restaurant reservations, spa booking confirmations, anything we needed in our villa such as removing a small ant parade that had formed after breakfast) were taken care of in minutes and all service was done with a smile
*Their vegetarian / vegan breakfast selections were pretty good; my wife and I dined in fried rice, noodles, cereal, milk, fruit, fruit juices, and coffee every morning
*The shuttle was convenient for travel in the Seminyak area and always available within 5-10 minutes
*The villa was nicely furnished and though the sun never reached the pool, it was still a nice amenity to have
*They went out of their way to provide an eggless cake for our honeymoon celebration; a nice touch on top of the flowers and swan towels they placed on our bed

The not-so-good:
*The location is not as ideal as a location on the beach or in Seminyak Square
*Minor mishap with one of the front desk employees indicating that local calls are free when in fact they are quite expensive; just have the front desk dial any numbers for you

All in all, location aside, an extremely pleasant experience. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Stayed in villa 14; not too far or close from front. Had no problems and would recommend it.

These villas were a fabulous experience. The customer service/staff was phenomenal . The breakfast (included in rate) was the best I had in Indonesia. The location is not in the middle of everything, but it's really not an issue. The hotel car will take you to your local destination, and you can take a cab back for less than 5$ (remember to negotiate!). The only minor issue was that the way the villas are built, there are cracks where mosquitoes can slip into the villas. It was not terrible, as everything is sprayed down, but having longer drapes that cover the windows would help address that issue. Also, rooms need new towels.

We stayed at Maca for six nights with our five month old. The staff really made the stay memorable. They were fantastic with our baby and nothing was too much of an ask. The facilities are lovely and the complimentary massage is an added treat. I would definitely recommend staying at Maca if you are looking for a private pool villa in Seminyak.
