“Happy Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

Great location, friendly staff and nice food. We had booked through the internet and due to a system glitch, there was some confusion over the prices. However the reservation manager was prompt in resolving this and we had a wonderful room and holiday. Special thanks to Dewi for going out of her way to provide us with fair solutions and her service is certainly commendable!

We had a huge studio room overlooking the garden, with double sliding doors that open up to a balcony, and an indoor and outdoor daybed. Very clean, comfortable king size bed. Ceiling fan was nice for when we'd had enough of the aircon. Main pool was busy during the day so it was nice to have an alternative 'quiet' pool since we didn't have kids with us. Yoga class was great although there were fewer fitness classes than indicated on the website. Not much happening at the bar next to the pool but there are plenty of nearby bars to visit - Potato head is just next door and Ku De Ta is walking distance.

Room Tip: Our room on the top floor seemed a bit more private than those on the ground.

We were really excited to stay having read some great reviews.

The good bits; The kids club was great and well set up. Rooms comfortable - we stayed in an executive suite, the room was clean and well appointed no complaints. The pool area was nicely set out and a good spot to relax. The gym was well equipped and the morning yoga sessions were great. The staff were keen and well intentioned. The spa was really nice and we enjoyed a couple of fantastic treatments.

A few gripes; when we booked we got 40% off the room rate, 2 days later they offered the same room at 65% off. I know prices change but I was not overly enthused to know I was paying a premium.

The system with finding the pool attendant to get into the gym is a pain, not a big deal but just strange.

The food was fine but not amazing, the menu lacked much in the way of inspiration and the food was pretty pedestrian which was a shame because the wait staff were actually pretty good.

For a decent coffee and meal there are better options outside. If you are pool side the staff were good but it regularly took an hour to get our food order out.

The wifi was painful, the only place I could get on was the pool or restaurant, the room was a black spot.

Fogging was due on tues and thurs but didn't happen whilst we stayed, as a result a ground floor room opening on to a garden meant lots of mossies.

The location is fine to get to the standard seminyak fare of potato head and ku de ta, getting out and about with small kids wasn't the easiest as there are no side walks and lots of traffic.

A good holiday but the resort needs a bit of a lift.

The Semara Resort has lots of things going for it including a great location surrounded by the best of Bali's Restaurants, spa's and shops.

However while the rooms are large and spacious they lack style. Featuring a big desk, big wardrobe, big bed and two tacky Balinese paintings, they obviously forgot to call in an interior designer on the project. They need one STAT - this would elevate the hotel from dull to great.

Bathrooms are big with a nice bath but similarly bland. Was very disappointed with the towels, two very small frayed towels arrived everyday but it was pot luck as to whether you got bath mats and face washers. The toilet was also poorly ventilated and never smelt fresh.

Breakfast while a la carte was plentiful and offered plenty of choices. Service was attentive. The pool area was nicely done, although tiles were very slippery and l lost count of the number of people who fell over.

Couples need to note that this is a very family friendly hotel with a kids club, so if you don't want to share breakfast and the pool with kids that are alternately screaming with joy or crying then best to go elsewhere.

There are plenty of deals on at this hotel, with free massages (very good), upgrades and credits towards food and drinks.

WI-FI is painfully slow.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade to one of the larger rooms

Having heard so many great things about this hotel it was top of our list to stay here next time we were in Bali. Managed to get a good price booking direct on the hotels website. Our room was lovely, it was huge, more than enough space for 2 adults and 2 children (king size bed, sofa bed and rollaway). Nice outside area with daybed, table and chairs, leading directly out to the opening to the pool. The pool area is lovely, lots of huge beds and umbrellas and we also made use of the cabanas. We also liked the fact that wifi was free all over the resort. It didnt seem to busy, for this reason there wasnt much 'atmosphere' around the pool which I missed compared to other hotels Ive stayed at.
My kids really enjoyed the kids club, and it certainly is impressive. The thing I didnt like about it was that you couldnt take them in and out, if you paid for 2/4 hours (we were entitled to get 4hours if we paid for 2) then you couldnt split the time up, they were in there for the whole time. i like to be able to have the kids go in and out throughout the day and this would put me off staying there again for that reason. The other downsides to me were that I didnt really like the location in Seminyak. It was great to be near Biku, (breakfast wasnt included in our room rate) but for families I didnt think there was a great choice of reasonably priced eateries within easy walking distance, and at night time we found that the taxi drivers imposed a minimum price to go anywhere (and whilst still cheap enough you still feel like they are ripping you off). Also the hotel isnt beach front, and its a long hot walk down the street to get to the entrance to the beach, as we like to walk along the beach after breakfast we just found this a bit of a hassle. Also there are very few pavements in this area of Seminyak and this was a bit of a nuisance with 2 young children when you walk anywhere.
For me this hotel just didnt live up to the hype

Good for family holiday, nice and comfortable room, yet not very spacious for the pool side type. Very quiet, close to the beach but not exactly by beach. close to wonderful potato head beach club!

We tried the full body massage but it is not as that professional as we wanted, good in Bali though. Very good environment.
