“Excellent for young families looking for that little extra”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

We spent 7 nights at the Semara Resort with another family and would definately love to go back. After being to quite a few different places in Bali, this was my favourite. The rooms are very spacious and modern with a large beautiful bathroom. We shared our room with our 2 children aged 8 and 11 and had plenty of space. The kids club was impressive, our kids enjoyed all the different activities they provided and made many things with the staff. Included in our package was a 1 hour massage which was sensational. The buffet was so yummy, the best poached eggs I have had. We ate by the pool numerous times for lunch and had dinner in the restaurant, the food was always fantastic and very reasonable priced. We had Nasi Goreng many times while in Bali and the Semara Resort definately won with the best. The Semara Resort is definately the coolest boutique hotel around.

Dear Mell66,

Many thanks for taking your time to review us on Tripadvisor. We truly appreciate your honest and kind words.
The Executive Rooms are perfect for families as they are 60m2 and so comfortably accommodate up to 2 adults and 2 children. The bathroom is also spacious and has a separate bath and shower not a shower over a bath that is very common. All the these rooms are interconnecting which can be confirmed at the time of booking for larger families. The spa and kids club is already very popular for our in-house and outside guests.
We look forward to welcoming you back on your next Bali Holiday.

We have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Semara Resort. We shared a room with 2 children and we found it very comfortable. The rooms were modern and very clean and they were wonderful to return to each day. The whole resort was very clean and well maintained.
The pool area was quiet and very relaxing. They were lovely beds to lie on beside the pool and the staff were very attentive offering drinks from the pool bar.
We received two spa treatments as part of our package and these were fantastic. Although our children were perhaps too old for the kids club they were very keen to visit each day and play on the XBox and computers.
The buffet at the deck restaurant was a great start each day. We travelled with a peanut allergy child and we felt very safe eating at this restaurant. We were able to talk to the chef and all the staff were aware of the allergy.
One of the best features of this resort are the staff. They were so friendly and willing to help you with absolutely anything. The front desk staff greeted you warmly everytime you passed them and always knew what you were up to and asked about your day. Every employee at the resort always greeted you warmly when you passed them on the grounds.

Room Tip: We stayed on a ground floor unit and it was very quiet.

We arrived late on a Friday afternoon and after 24 hours travelling, we were automatically upgraded to one of the Executive Suites - Thanks!
While we only had 4 days to enjoy the suite, it was a delighful break and very private, especially with a private pool located outside our door (to be shared with other executive suite guests). Although we did have other Semara guests sneaking in and using the private pool .. but they were quite enough and it made for a lovely sanctuary.
The room itself was large, with wardobe, safe and lounge chair and the most deluxe bed with canopy. The seperate Bathroon and Toilet featured free standing bath and seperate shower. Double basin in the vanity and matching robes & slippers.
The mini bar was well stocked and we both came to enjoy the turn down service each evening. Bliss!

Room Tip: We were lucky to be upgraded to the Executive Suite(s) area which has it's own private pool and...

Dear Biddie22,

Thanks for your review. The room category you were upgraded to was a Superior Poolside which is located in our Villa Annex area. The 2nd pool in this area is designated as a “ quiet pool area “ and is available to any guests wanting a more peaceful and relaxed space. A lovely sanctuary is a great description. Looking forward to seeing you at Semara again. We have a great offer for repeat guests launching soon !

I stayed 10 nights on my own, i had the Pool room 306 which was a great room very close to the pool, bed was very comfortable bathroom shower was big but had no bath, i found the hotel to be very close to everything, Potato Head right next door, Ku De Ta is just down the road both places are great to hang out & food is amazing, the restaurants around Seminyak have great dinning & cheap!! I didn't eat at the hotel as it was over priced & not that great. The staff were very friendly & helpful, my room was cleaned everyday. The pool is nice but it can get a bit noisy with all the kids, so the hotel has a second pool which is only for adults, very quiet nice & relaxing. For the ladies to indulge & relax, massage etc head to Body Works only 10 min walk, prices are cheap & its amazing!! the hotel was overpriced! Overall i had a relaxing time & enjoyed my stay.

There was only one thing i was disappointed with, i checked out & had my luggage held at the resort before i flew out & i had AUS $$ taken out of my bag which was hidden away & also my favourite silver ring was taken out of my makeup bag when they cleaned my room. I only realized when i got to the airport. I did keep all my things secure in a safe but you cant trust everybody.

Room Tip: if you want a room that is quieter & relaxing don't get one near the pool.

Dear Renee,

We believe our food is very competitively priced compared to our neighbouring venues and hotels. We have just launched a new menu offering an even wider variety.
I have checked the record from our Duty Manager on the night of your check out. It is noted that you called the hotel from the airport mentioning that some items were missing including a mobile phone and diamond ring. The duty Manager did ask you to send an email so we could investigate further and if the case make a police report. To date we have not received any further correspondence until this posting.

Dear Richard,

Semara is located in the up and coming area of Jalan Petitienget, next door to Potato Head Beach Club. It won’t be too long before this area will be the most desired in Bali ! From your review you must have stayed in a poolside room. These are 30m2 and are good for those who don’t spend a lot of time in the room. Our Executive & Deluxe Suites are 60m2 and have a separate bath and shower. These rooms are very spacious which is very rare in new hotels in Bali. Thanks for your nice comment about our staff, the Balinese do have a beautiful nature.

We arrived at Semara after a couple of weeks in Lombok and wanted to stay in Seminyak to be close to all of the action.

Semara is in a great location and there is pretty much everything you would want, regardless of budget, within walking distance. Once inside the property you forget about the hustle and bustle.

It’s a small resort which is not on the beach but has all of the facilities of a larger resort including two pools, bar & restaurant and a spa.

This is definitely a family resort and so if you are looking for peace and quiet make sure you tell them this when you are booking a room so that you are not near the pool which, at times can be full of screaming kids!

We had originally booked a pool side room but the hotel upgraded us to a deluxe suite when we checked in (they could probably tell we would not have liked the noise). We were extremely thankful because there were a number of families staying and the pool area was very noisy.

Semara has an adults only pool area which is located in a secluded Gazebo & Pool Area. It was bliss compared the noise at the main pool. The pool is a 16m pool and is surrounded by both decking and grass. You really felt like you were staying in a private villa more than a resort when you were by the pool.

We had a deluxe suite but also got to see a superior room. They are all very spacious and well appointed. Our bathroom was great with two basins, free standing bath and a rain head shower. The floor and walls were lovely stone tiles. The bed was a lovely four poster bed with a canopy. Our room looked into a lovely garden and our terrace had a table and chairs and a day bed.

We only ate lunch at the restaurant and the food selection was great. There was a choice of both Indonesian and Western food at reasonable prices given that you were staying in a resort. The cocktail list was extensive and the drinks were well made.

The staff we great and genuinely wanted to make your stay a pleasant one.

Couple of little niggles.

You only get two small bottle of water in your room each day. You should not drink the tap water in Bali if you want to enjoy your holiday and it would have been nicer to have been provided water when you room was serviced in the morning and again at night.

Also, when we checked out there were a couple of local phone calls on our bill. We did make the calls but we never got connected to the places we were calling. The charge is only IDR 2,500 but if you did not make the call then you should not be charged. The receptionist knew about the issue but said the PABX automatically charges the room if you try call someone. Now this is a really small issue but it should be fixed or give the receptionist the authority to remove from the charge from the bill.

Attention to fixing the small things can be the difference between a great stay and a magnificent stay.

Room Tip: If you are not travelling as a family group and want a quiet room then ask to be in the quiet end of...

Dear MandA6468,

Its nice to have some Kiwi’s stay with us at Semara Seminyak Resort and thank you for such a comprehensive review. All your points are well noted.
The water provided in room is for teeth brushing thus why it is placed in the bathroom. We choose to use glass bottles which can then be recycled.
Reasonably priced drinking water can be purchased at Geogies Poolside Bar.
