“Luxurious resort but really crappy wifi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2011

The resort is lovely. We are still staying here, have another 2 nights to go of a total of 4 nights. Got upgraded to a suite room from our pool room which was great. Large airy room with a big balcony and huge king size bed. Clean and large bathroom. Pool was fabulous and so was service most of the time. The resort is next to Potato head which is a wonderful place for a meal (awesome south east asian tapas selection) or just to some have nice sun downers. My only problem with the resort is that they have the worst wifi I have ever come across. It just does not work. We have had problems from day 1 and since both me and my husband have to work a few hours on this trip the choice of this resort may not have been the best. The staff is very slow when it comes to resolving IT issues. I am currently working and writing this review from the lobby of the resort using the only available wifi (extremely slow to begin with) which is close to the atrium bar and deck. Also, maybe the hotel should get some more CD's, have only heard Lady Gaga & Shakira play at the pool bar for the last 48 hours, not the most relaxing music during a holiday!

Room Tip: The suites are really nice much larger than the pool rooms and large airy balconies.

Stumbled upon this new hotel after finding a good rate online...wow...what a steal this place is at the moment.

I agree with others here who are predicting this will become the #1 resort in seminyak, it has everything going for it and i cant see how they could do anything better.

The staff here are the best ive seen in Bali, fantastic people!

Rooms are top quality, so much space, great balcony area with huge day bed. King size bed is insanely comfy.

Pool, spa & restaurants are really good and cannot be faulted.

I plan to stay here on my next visit to Bali.

We stayed in Semara for a few nights and we had such a great experience that we will definately stay here again when we return to Bali! we got upgraded to the best room in lieu of the pool side room which was a bonus!

Staff was so friendly and helpful. The pool and Gorgies restaurant was amazing!
Alhough it was a taxi ride to get to places it is still worth staying here! no mozzies too!.. well they spray the area so often that theres hardly any.. Cocktails were so good and with the happy hour every afternoon- you just cant resist!

Staff was happy to store our luggages and let us swim in the pool even after we had checked out.

we actually regret not staying longer in Semara!!

Semara Resort is well located next to restuarants and shops. The Rooms are clean and well appointed. We stayed on a first level room and had a large balcony area. Definitely need to use airconditioning as there does not appear to be any prevailing breezes. The pool area is nice with service by the pool. It is a good place to take children due to kids club. The employees are first rate and nothing is too much trouble. The in-house spa, whilst dearer than a massage at a local place, provided quality services. For example, the pedicure was hygenic, professional and used quality products. I normally don't use the in-house shampoo and body products however Semara use quality products, One thing that did not meet the high standards were the quality of their towels. They were a grey and low quality. Breakfast is good with variety catering to everyone's requirements. All in all a great stay.

Dear Troppo5176,

Warm greetings from Bali!

Thank you for staying at Semara Resort & Spa and taking the time to review our resort.

We really appreciate the positive comments you gave to the property, especially the usage of all of our facilities including trusting our choice of in-house shampoo and body products as we do use only the best natural products.

It was unfortunate that you had the under-standard towel as we have ensure that we use a fine laundry company hence a high quality of towels are being distributed throughout the resort. We have taken a note on this and we will make sure that all of our guest will receive only the best ones.

We look forward to welcoming you again and we guarantee that your next stay will be truly be a memorable one and even better!

Warm regards,
Shelly Erika

I'm staying in seminyak alone, and was upgraded from the poolside spot special to a luxury room with balcony. This resort is amazing, no expense spared on the fit out and the staff are so lovely. The pool is amazing, with day beds and cabanas (if you want to leave the double day bed you have on your balcony anyway!). The food is great too. There's nothing to complain about at all and I'm sure this will soon be #1 of the hotels in seminyak. highly recommend!

We have just finished the first part of our three weeks in Bali at the beautiful Semara Resort. What a way to start our trip, with an upgrade to a superior suite. Originally we had booked a pool view room, but due to being booked out they upgraded us to a superior suite near the spa. We actually preferred this location as It was more peaceful and private. Without doubt the staff make this place tick, they could not have been more accommodating or friendly going about their day with a smile on their face especially the wonderful Wahyuni, Tini and Arpana, thank you for making our stay a wonderful experience.
The gardens and rooms were kept immaculate, staff constantly walking around picking up leaves or sweeping and washing down the path ways. Nothing seemed out of place. The ambience around the pool was so relaxing, soft lounge music was piped through the speakers as you lied back in either one of the cabana's at the end of the pool or any of the lounge chairs surrounding the pool. The resort is well secured with security staff always on duty at the front of the complex. They too are very friendly and will get you a taxi if needed or stop the traffic for you to walk across the busy street. Semara is well located in Seminyak, with Potato Head (Famous Restaurant on beach) next door, walking distance to many other lovely restaurants, like 'The Living Room', Ku de Ta and Sarong. If your looking for cheaper places there are many smaller restaurants near by such as Bali Ayu Hotel. Whilst the resort is not on the beach it is only a short 5 min walk. Whislt this resort has a Kids Club we never felt over run by kids as a couple. A very romantic setting!

Room Tip: If you want privacy and peace and quite pick a room at the end of the resort past the spa. If you l...

Hi Mandy,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a very nice and thorough review. We appreciate it a lot.

We are happy to know that you had a lovely stay and that our staff did mark your wonderful holiday in a good way. We are trying our best keep the resort immaculate to ensure guest are happy and do have a memorable stay with us. We also offer three room types making sure guest has options of what kind of holiday they would like to have – from single traveler, couple, business to a family trip. And yes the Superior Suites towards the end of the resort having more privacy as there is not many people walking around that area although our security is always stand by there.

We all hope to see you again soon at Semara Resort & Spa.

Best wishes,
Shelly Erika

My husband, son (5 years) and I, recently spent a week here, and what a fabulous week it was.

Greeted by lovely welcoming staff with good english who checked us in quickly and efficiantly and took us to our room. We had a superior room which we found to be very impressive. All new, very spacious, chic and sparkling clean, bathroom was large and housed the 3 of us very comfortably. When booking, i requested a room away from the restaurant and pool and was very happy with the peace and quiet down this part of the resort. Infact, the whole resort seemed very peaceful. We were on the ground floor and our patio was very big too with a table and chairs, plus a gorgeous daybed laden with cushions. Nice spot to sit with a drink and read your book.

Resort itself is only small, but that is, in our eyes, a positive. Pool area was gorgeous, especially loved the Bale's - great spot to set up for the day. Food was very nice but my husband did think the menu could have been a little larger, i tend to agree.

Enjoyed the Thursday night Balinese Buffet by the pool. What a magic night. Balinese dance show, music, kids could dress up in traditional bali dress and the food was delish. If you can, get there when it starts at 6pm and make the most of the 2 for 1 cocktails!

Kids club was awesome! Guests are given 2 hours free per day, per child. My son was in heaven. All very new, beautiful smily staff, great activities, decked out with all the latest Mac computers, PS3s and a nice snack menu also. Each day my son was itching to get in there, made for some nice 'us time' for my husband and i also.

Breakfast was great. Good selection, usual egg station and nice ambience. Coffee good too, which can, at times, be hard to come across in Bali.

Location was good - Jl Petitenget. Potato Head next door, W Resort only couple hundred metres up the street, Huu Bar around the corner and only a short taxi ride to all the great restaurants and shopping of Jl Oberoi/Laksmana/Seminyak.

Indulged (also had 4 on the house) in massages and pedicures in the spa. Size of the spa was surprisingly big in comparison to the resort. Was beautiful and used OPI nailpolish (something i always look for). Long opening hours too. I'd strongly suggest getting a massage the day you fly home. NIce note to finish your trip on.

All in all, i'd highly recommend a stay here, you won't be disappointed. We are already planning our next trip back.

Room Tip: Request a room away from the restaurant and pool..... very quiet. Also try for ground floor as i ima...
