“Yet another enjoyable stay in Semara Resorts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2011 via mobile

I have now been fortunate enough to stay in both Semara Resorts properties in Bali. Whilst they are very different in their location and concepts, they both offer a great place to kick back and relax.

The food in Atrium was very enjoyable, and all the staff from the chef to the waiting staff could not do enough to help.

Certainly a place I will be returning to.

Before I leap into the review I would like to point out that I did address our dissapointment with Simon who was suposedly the General manager and if so your reaction was a disgrace . I was wanting to give face to face feedback to avoid a written review as I would like to see your resort suceed . It has huge potential and I feel its the managment that has let the owner/s down . Mr Tony Smith I welcome you to contact me to discuss this further . I am a guest who wants to give constructive feedback.
Simon your lack of interest was evident in you not giving me any direct eye contact and that you did not seem to offer any way of making up for the lack of service and terrible experience.
I walked away feeling that little bit of paper you were writing on was to humour me and would be thrown in the bin once you left our meeting . I suggest you rethink your career in resort managment and perhaps go back to waiting or managing restaurants .

In a nut shell Mr Smith you have a delightful resort however before offering packages or extras you should make sure your staff can follow though with the services . Your breakfasts were a disgrace ( fruit not fresh and riddled with insects ) Never enough food . I felt we were left with the dregs and it was often only 9am . Room service was disgraceful I would not have fed anyone what we were dished up . (Reheated chips obviously from the days meals reheated . Nasi Goring - the worst ever plated ) . Thankyou for NO massage which was meant to be included in our package . Every day was booked out . I did provide Simon with solutions to all my complaints but not one was written down . Your balinese staff were lovely , its your westernstaff that need a good talking to . I think I could have managed your resort much better and that your western staff have a lot to answer for and need training on customer service .
I have friends who were staying at you resort following our stay and wish I had have had enough time to tell them to change their accomodation . I am so sorry but you need to address your poor managment .

Room Tip: Our room was positioned perfectly .

Dear Guest,

Sadly, it is unfortunately impossible to make everyone happy.

For travellers who value reviews on Trip Advisor we encourage you to read all reviews as that is the only way to get an informed opinion of the true level of service and facilities we provide.

Kind Regards

Good sized resort. Rooms on the side I stayed were huge. Pool is central to everything. Spa facilities were superb and cheap. Worth trying even if you weren't staying on site. All other facilities are brand new.

Lovely week at this resort. Staff are very friendly & helpful. Food is pretty good, the usual buffet style breakfast & 2 nice restaurant/bars. Some more local food would have made it more interesting. Special nights at the resort were great fun & good value. Excellent pool, plenty of lounges. The location is not quite where we expected. A good walk down to the beach via either Potato Head beach club or thru a dodgy little lane & a cheap beachside guesthouse with lots of single men in speedos(???). However, very easy & cheap to get a taxi down to the main Seminyak shopping area & beach.
Also, privacy curtains would have been nice. But overall, very happy.

We had two fabulous weeks staying here in late september with two families.
I was highly impressed with all aspects of our stay from staff being incredibly gentle, courteous and happy to fabulous food (I've never seen my son each so much breakfast everyday), great kids facilities (kids club and pools), and lovely spacious and well thought out accommodation.
I would recommend this hotel highly to families that wish to stay in Bali. Staff were very helpful in helping us plan child friendly activities (Bali Zoo, Waterbom and Safari Park) and there was plenty of opportunity for parents and kids to enjoy all the local shopping, wining and dining as Semara is close to all the action.

Semara Resort & Spa in Seminyak is a well designed boutique resort with beautiful rooms, terrific pool areas, relaxing beauty spa and reflective garden areas and excellent restaurant areas. Situated just minutes from the main street in Seminyak, Ku De Ta, Potatohead and my favourite Red Carpet Champagne Bar, Semara works for many reasons. The attention to detail in the rooms the fabrics, furnishings and generosity of space is welcome in a resort hotel. Happy to be going back soon Semara is a new standout.

Arrived at the Semara last week in September. Upon arrival late in the afternoon, the reception guy told us we had been upgraded "free of charge" from a Poolside Room to a Superior Suite... GOOD MOVE! The Poolside rooms are very small.. the Suites are massive and very comfortable, clean and the bathrooms are exceptional (2 basins, free standing bath and big shower tiled from floor to ceiling) - oh, and the 106cm LCD on the wall came in very handy to watch the Singaport Grand prix! We also loved the balcony - ours overlooked the Spa - and it's huge day bed.. We were quickly escorted to our room and given a guided tour, and our luggage followed us closely! First impressions were - "WOW.. this is going to be an awesome week"

Being our first evening, we decided to eat in the Atrium Restaurant at Semara. Unfortunately we were the only diners there so lacked ambience. Although the food was ok, and the service great. Had the place been busier, I think we would have enjoyed it more. Fine dining, so small portions too.

Location. Brilliant. Cannot fault it. Out of the hussle-bussle of mainstream Seminyak, yet less than AU$1 in a taxi to Seminyak square. Within walking distance (5 to 10 minute walk) there are ample restaurants to chose from. Just a couple of brilliant ones that come to mind are Sarong and Biku (Biku is fantastic for lunch or high-tea - best beef pie and chips in the world!). Just a few minutes in a "BlueBird Taxi" to the left of Semara towards Kerobokan there are quite a few top restaurants.. we tried Sardine, Jemme and have been to Metis before.. Sardine is highly recommended. Just a few minutes to the right of Semara, and you are on the main restaurant strip - Ultimo, Chandi, Tratoria, Cafe Bali (nice, cheap Me Goreng), Nirvana etc. and just up from these are all the boutique shops etc.

Next door is Potato Head beach Club - this place is nuts.. go there for a Brandy Alexander and watch the sunset.. nice vibe, good mix of people, great DJ.. but make sure you take plenty of cash!!! Similar kind of place down the road is Ku De Ta... we went a few times.. We had pizza and Bintang on one of their lounges one evening which was beautiful - watching the lit-up waves and listening to the chillout tunes.. 2 equally awesome venues, highly recommended.

Beach is less than a 5 minute walk.. we walked from Semara down the beach to Legian, did some shopping, slipped in a Bintang or two and then taxi back.. beautiful..

In the Semara area itself, just to the left of it there is a Commonwealth Bank ATM inside the Mini Mart (We had our mini bar at the hotel emptied and stocked up daily on bottles of water, beer and diet coke for the Jim Beam!). There's another little handy shop too called Tom's. Taxi's flow constantly along the main road - hotel security usually whistle for them (make sure it's a BlueBird - nicer cars, and on a meter..).

The Semara Resort itself is fantastic. Very chic and clean looking - paths are washed daily.. gardeners constantly plucking weeds and trimming leaves.. The pool area is immaculate - every time someone comes out of the pool, the pool-boys mop up the water after them. Loved the pool - very relaxing and nice temperature. Table service by the pool is superb, and the staff are very friendly, fun and smartly dressed. Sun loungers are comfortable, and towels clean. There was a great vibe around the pool whilst we were there.. we made a few friends. Breakfast is delicious - plenty of choice. Free evening drink at the Atrium is great - we soon realised that most go down there around 8.30, which was great as everyone mingled.

The room-cleaning service we received here made the holiday very special. They guys went out of their way for us. Every morning and most afternoons we received new clean bathroom towels. Every evening around 6.30 our bed was "turned down" (quilt folded down neatly and cushions removed)... very nice, personal touch.

Overall... definitely 5 star luxury.. One thing my wife missed was a full length mirror in our room (which I believe will be installed in the future). If you don't try the place, you are missing out!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in 215 .. Great room.. Just off the far end of the pool area so very peaceful but yet we c...

Hi there,

It's great to hear your positive and happy comments from your stay with us at Semara and in Bali.

You're very welcome for your complimentary upgrade!

For any future travelers coming to stay at Semara, we will soon be expanding Atrium Restaurant and changing the style slightly to cater for more casual diners. We hope that you will be back in the future to experience this exciting new change.

You're absolutely right about the mirrors. We are currently progressing through all of our rooms to fit them with a full length mirror.

We hope we will see you again in the future :)

Regards

Alisa
