“Great place to stay at a value in Seminyak area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013

After we already stayed at Villa Bunga after landing on Bali, we returned to this place after our round-trip on Bali before leaving the island again. Once again we head a great stay at this hotel and would definitely go there again. The hotel itself is a little bit outside of Seminyak - approx. 30 min. walk to Seminyak Square. At our first stay we stayed in one of the standard rooms which are located on the first floor. Our room S1 was very nice bright. The deluxe rooms are situated below the standard rooms and have their own little terrace, therefor they are a little bit smaller then the standard rooms. There are also Bungalows and Studios available. We personally liked the standard rooms a little more, as they are slightly bigger and especially ours was pretty bright. The other standard rooms might have a little bit less light as they are opposite a neighboring house and trees. The hotel's restaurant "Honeybees" offers a great variety of tasty and reasonably-priced food. Try the tuna with lemongrass sauce and the Sate temple. The swimming pool would need some renewal and looks a little bit old aswell as the bathrooms.
The staff and also the quite young manager was extraordinary friendly and helpful anytime.
We did a tour with the hotel's driver but we would not recommend him to someone else. The price was compared with others nothing special (Rp. 450.000 to Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Tanah Lot, Padang Padang). Intentionally we wanted to see some beaches on this day tour, but we ended up only seeing the ones he drove us to, because he said that they all look the same (which they obviously don't, checking them out on google pics in advance). Furthermore he was driving us to places where he had the feeling that he got some money for letting us eat and do activities with his "friends". Beside that his English is not too good either and he could not answer our questions concerning the island. Another negative point was that he totally ignored me and was only communicating with my boyfriend (he did not even shake my hands, when he shaked my boyfriend's for saying goodbye).

Room Tip: We can recommend the standard room S1.

We stayed for 3 nights in this hidden gem. The staff exceeded our expectations by far from the very first night. The moment we arrived, I lost my phone in the taxi with no receipt and since then the receptionists kept on trying to reach out to the driver every day. They concerned more than I did. Additionally, our room was so cozy, clean and comfortable, that it instantly felt like home. The hotel was perfectly situated in a not too noisy area but still near restaurants, shops, bars, clubs and beach. We also tried the massage services and we strongly recommend them. Everyone in the hotel was warm, welcoming and highly considerate if we enjoyed our stay. We will certainly go back and we would suggest it to everyone. That secret place is a unique travelling experience!

We had a great 3 day stay in the cosy small hotel.
The service is excellent, people are really helpful. The rooms are big, good and clean. The hotel offers free bicycles which we used every day. :-) With bike just 5 minutes to the beach, 15 m to legian beach.

The road is as said a bit noisy, in our room we didn't hear any noise though.

We stayed here for 1 night after booking 6 nights. We arrived late at night and shown to our `deluxe` room. The moment we stepped into our room the smell of damp hit us. I went to reception and asked for another room only to be told the hotel was full.We tried to sleep but the noise from the air conditioning was horrendous. We arose very early and had breakfast by the pool. The traffic noise was constant and we realised this was not the relaxing hotel we were expecting. We went to check out and pay for our night and were immediately offered a free upgrade to a studio room which was very nice but the traffic noise really put us off.Leaving was difficult as the staff were insistent we stay.It took 45 mins to settle the account! We have been to Bali many times and stayed often in Seminyak. We have never been so disappointed with a Balinese hotel.I cannot understand why the reviews are so glowing of Villa Bunga.

Stayed here for Xmas. Got upgraded upon check in, the room was amazing. Staff are brilliant, very attentive. Breakfast is lovely, swimming pool is nice. Only downside is its a 20 minute walk to the beach but a taxi cost $2 to get there. Would definitely stay again.

I stayed in Villa Bunga for 4 nights from 19 to 23 January, 2013. The hotel is quite small and the friendly staff all add to the relaxed atmosphere. On arrival we were upgraded to a deluxe room which was a nice touch. Our room (D2) was quite large, had a small terrace with sunbed, table and chair, air conditioning, mini fridge, flat screen tv, safe, dressing table and a very large bed, all for only 450,000 Rupiah per night. It was clean and modern looking. The bathroom was also large with a big shower and sink (no bath).

The hotel itself was decked out in the beautiful traditional Balinese style with a quiet pool area outside our room (about 10m long by 5m wide).

Breakfast was also decent and included in the above price.

The hotels' only 2 shortcomings were as follows:
1) the road-it is on a crazy road which leads into central Seminyak and it can be a little noisy at times (although it didn't bother us too much)
2) the road (again!)/ location-Villa Bunga is around a 10 minute walk to the first main stretch of shops and restaurants (you do pass one or two restaurants on your way). Not a problem you might think, but the road between the Hotel and the first main stretch of restaurants (which by the way isn't the centre of Seminyak, that is further on and a taxi ride away (approx 20k to 25k Rupiah)) is in a very poor condition with no pavements and random holes, etc. The walk each night we did it added to the slightly crazy experience of Bali we had....... I guess!

If you are willing to get Bluebird taxis from the hotel into central Seminyak each time (which isn't a problem as long as you stick to Bluebird metred taxis-very cheap), this takes away the location issue and would make this hotel a great choice.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road

Nice little villa's in the traditional style. The staff here are probably the highlight, one of the younger reception guys was very helpful with our stay there and arranging our onward journey to Nusa Lembongan with no hiccups. We stayed in L1 which was quite spacious and opened up onto the quiet pool area. Its pretty cheap and therefore good value for money.

You do need to use taxi's to get to most places although the W resort is about a 10 minute walk down the road with a few spots for eating on the way and plenty of mini-marts.
