“Absolutely beautiful hotel in the most tranquil of places”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2011

Check-in:
-Check-in was smooth enough. We arrived at 1pm and waited 10 minutes for an agent to assist us. Despite being an SPG Platinum and attempting to confirm an early check-in the day before, our room was not ready. However, the woman checking us in could not have been friendlier nor more professional. We happily lounged by the pool and ate lunch until our room was ready. Much to our surprise (gotta love status!), they upgraded us into a "Marvelous Suite"

Room:
-The room was amazing. The suite we were provided (room 550) was ~1300 square feet. It was actually just two rooms put together with a standard room on one side but a massive "living" area on the other. On the balcony we had our own hammock and a few chairs/tables, which was perfect for observing the killer sunsets.
-If the room was amazing, then there are no words for the bathroom. It was a true treasure and ultra luxurious, especially with our own skylight that provided natural light directly into the shower area. Also, we had high quality Bliss products (and not those dinky travel sized bottles, either!).

Food:
-Overall, the food was very good though some meals were better than others. We tried the buffet breakfast one day and found it to be of high quality but excessive. Also, while the price of ~40 USD/person was reasonable, it is certainly more than needs to be spent on breakfast. Note that despite being Platinum, breakfast is not included (apparently at any W Resorts property). Instead, we ordered breakfast each morning to our room and sat out on the terrace while we ate. It was half the price, much more private, and more enjoyable.
-The pool at the food was better than average - but for the price ($14 for a chicken sandwich), I was pretty impressed as it was reasonable given the normal rip-off.
-Typically, I prefer to eat dinner away from the hotel. However, we ate at Starfish Bloo on our last evening and we are very glad that we did. The food was innovative and the atmosphere fantastic. We sat in a "birdcage" type booth (once you see it, you'll understand) with the waves crashing in the background. We highly recommend the pork rib appetizers - and try to get Chef Jack to explain to you the menu, the recipes, and his life. We loved it all!

Service:
-The service was very good but I have seen better in Asia (still 100x better than the US!). The pool attendants were very friendly though it would have been nice if the pool waiters were a bit more visible. Though we never waited long, we did sometimes wait to track down someone to help us. Our rooms were always cleaned and even though we missed turndown service one evening, they were quick to come and do it while we sat on the balcony.

Pool:
-The pool was amazing. Multi-level, semi-private alcoves, and just the right temperature. We had no issues finding a couple chairs together and the 'day beds' are available on a first come first served basis.

Overall:
-We've been wanting to visit Bali for our entire lives and though our trip was quick - we had an absolutely amazing time. The W Bali is a bit more expensive than other hotels in Bali but given our upgrade and the free night coupons I was able to use, it cost us next to nothing. I'd stay there again but recommend the hotel be wary about jacking up prices much more!

Room Tip: Room 550 is an amazing suite with a perfect view

Hello Jajorden,

Thank you for your great review. There are very thorough details that are great for others researching W Bali. Being a Platinum does have its perks, but the you are correct – breakfast is not one of them as we do not have the Executive Lounges like most city hotels. We are glad that your Bali experience included the W and we look forward to welcoming you back. Please let me know when you decide to return: gm.craig.seaward@whotels.com.

All the best,
Craig Seaward

Came here for the last two nights of a two-week couple's trip and the venue didn't disappoint. Stylish, immaculate setting with a gorgeous multi-level pool and every amenity you can think of. Service was top-notch and I would definitely stay here again... as long as I can afford it ;)

The hotel is immaculate, everything is new and the design is first class. On arrival the hotel looks fantastic and we were not disappointed during our stay. Our room which faced the garden was very clean and was designed to a high specification. The pool was fine for our two children and there were activities organized by the hotel for children each day. The staff are very friendly and was very impressed with their help throughout the stay.

We ate breakfast each day at Fire, which was the best breakfast I have eaten at a hotel. Everything you could imagine is available and the quality of the food is very high. We ate dinner there one night, we had pizza but was very good.

The gym is good and equipped with good cardio equipment. The weight machines are good too. Although we didn't use the spa, I am sure it would have been great as it looked great.

The cakes in the afternoon were a hit with my children, you need to see them to understand why they taste so good.

The hotel is well located and there are good restaurants nearby. We tried a couple and they were both very good.

Overall, I would like to thank all the staff at the hotel for making the W experience in Bali the best holiday we have had.

Hello London200202,

Thank you for your post and we are happy to hear that you enjoyed the W Experience with your family. It sounds like you were able to try a bit of everything on property. Though we don’t have a Kids Club, our Talent do a good job of entertaining the little ones. I hope to welcome your family back to W Bali, and tell the kids that the T-Party cakes will be waiting for them!

All the best,
Craig Seaward

We started our vacation at the W Bali because we were worried about being jetlagged in some strange, unfamiliar hotel. My wife loves W hotels and trusts the brand, so even though it was at the high end of our budget, we started here.

With two nights in a villa and three nights in the regular hotel, we enjoyed the W. The Villas are amazing, although they're not really close to the water or hotel. They have little golf carts, aka "the buggy," to drop you off and pick you up.

The regular room was pretty nice, and I thought the shower in it was actually cooler than the shower in the villa, but otherwise it was pretty standard. They "upgraded" us to an ocean view room, which was at the very and of a hall, overlooking a lawn, some construction and some little place where roosters lived. Still, the balcony was nice and we could see the ocean.

The spa is pretty incredible, as you'd expect. However, with Bali, you can walk down the street and get a good massage for $10 instead of dropping $100 on one here. Is breathing from an oxygen tank worth the extra $90?

The food was pretty good, though very expensive, as you might expect. We left the hotel to buy our beers and wine and went out to dinner in Seminyak at some different places. We tried the steak restaurant at the W and it was good, but probably not worth the $300 we dropped on dinner.

Overall, the staff was very friendly, the location is good, the rooms are immaculate, the spa is good, the man pool area wasn't over-crowded. If you're on a budget it's not the place, but it is nice.

Hello Jtherkal,

Thank you for your post. I am delighted to hear that you were able to experience both the villas and retreats. The skylights in the Retreat bathrooms are a nice touch and make the room seem more open. It is great that you were able to try the steaks at FIRE; they are some of the best in town. We are happy that you chose to stay with us and hopefully there is a chance you will return.

All the best,
Craig Seaward

Capital S-poilt rotten is the best way to describe our experience at the W Retreat & Spa Bali – Seminyak. An amazing break for 3 friends was a much needed rescue from the Melbourne winter. From our First meeting Craig Seaward, our GM was approachable and friendly. Craig included us in a couple of hotel get togethers, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We were treated with every consideration & care by Craig and his welcoming team. Our spirits were boosted by the breakfast experience. Even at our most fragile post party stages of recovery, the gourmet breakfast saved us. Every day started off with a laugh with the welcoming Master Chefs, Ian Lovie and Jack Yoss. We were dined, wined and entertained by the thoroughly professional and attentive staff.
The pool is an oasis, the gym – state of the art & the spa was luxurious. Oxygen anyone ? The hotel rooms are extremely comfortable, with enormous bathroom facilities. Every attention to detail was taken care of.
Thanks for a wonderful stay. We will be back…. And that’s no false promise.
We love you , “W”.
Regards
D. E. F.

Very groovy, not sure who thought of creating the roughest road in Bali as the drive. The crowded area around the pool needs more shade, fine for the euro"s who haven"t heard of skin cancer. But not for more sun aware Aussies.

I just came back from an southeast asian trip and have to say the W in seminyak is one of the best hotels I know. I stayed on points and was upgraded to a pool villa although I have booked the lowest category! The hotel is brand new and has great style! The villa had its own pool approximately 3m*5m was equiped with a chillout area, bose sound in the room and garden, great bathroom and of course flat screen! I can really highly recommend this hotel and I am sure it's the best in Bali! The hotel has also two restaurants! I only tried fire a steakhoise which was very good and was fairly priced in consideration of the hotel it is located in, nevertheless I would recommend to go at leats for lunch to restaurant right next to the W on the beach which offers great seafood for about 5 euros a dish and very nice seating!

Hello Chrisi1988,

Thank you for your WOW review! We are glad to hear that W Bali scored high points during your Southeast Asia trip. If you are looking for a chill out spot – the villas are perfect. Fire does have a great selection, but next time you return, make sure to try Starfish Bloo.

I haven’t tried Leats, but will certainly check it out. Thanks for the recommendation.

Warm wishes,
Craig Seaward
