“Not good value for money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2011

Expect to be disappointed if you pay $450 per night for Aman Putri. The place is quite run down and needs money spent on furniture and general maintenance. Beware the L/H bathroom which smells like the water is drawn directly from the waste water creek beside the villa. Shop around and you will find much better places for less money.

Just returned from a week spent at Villa Carissa. There were 4 females all in our 30s. We booked directly with Neil, who is just fantastic! The villa was stunning. Gorgeous private pool with daybed in a cabana. Also 2 sunlounges outside the bottom bedroom. The bedrooms were generous in size and we 2 girls upstairs and 2 girls downstairs with one on a roll out bed (which was really comfortable!). The staff are amazing. Whenever we wanted anything - from money, to massages, to bike hiring or wifi cards we called and whatever we needed was provided straight away! The villa is well air conditioned in all bedrooms and living areas. The breakfast is great, although it probably could have more variety. We were all sick of eggs by the end of the trip! It is well situated and you can walk to nearby restaurants and Seminyak Square. The villa is clean and comfy and would also be perfect for families.

THE CONS

The water pressure in the showers is average, but this is quite normal for Bali. The upstairs shower was blocked so we all used the downstairs one. If you weren't quick enough the shower would stop and you would have to wait about 5 minutes for it to resume. The pebbles on the floor of the shower are not the most comfortable things to stand on either. There is a pump near the gate of the villa that is very noisy but you didn't hear it when you were in bed with the doors shut. The dogs in the neighbouring property bark all night but after a few nights you tune out to them. The upstairs bedroom was noisy, you could hear music and traffic noise all night long. We had a mouse that would come late at night when were sitting outside. One morning he had eaten thru the bottom of a fresh bag of chips! The mosies are bad but you are given insect repellant and plenty of mosie coils to combat this. Overall we had an absolute ball, we loved the villa and if we went back would stay there again. Highly recommend it to anyone!

We recently stayed in Villa Japun at Sekar Teman 1. 3 people for a cost of $250 a night which we thought was good value. However there were many things wrong with this villa that I wouldn't return again.
Pros - great location. Walking distance to everything. The pool was beautiful and the villa was reasonably private.
Cons - Staff were friendly, but didn't really do anything to go out of their way to assist you.
On arrival there was no iron or ironing board and they were very hesitant to give us an iron. Everything in this villa was set up for 2 people, therefore anymore than 2 people and it is not comfortable. ie - 2 chairs, 2 deck chairs etc
The Villa is a good size, however it is in major need of a renovation. Everything was old, the airconditioner in the bedrooms didn't work, the power continually failed due to circuits breaking, the lamps are falling apart, the bathrooms were questionably clean, the ceiling in one room leaked, when the local restaurants start music it goes until about 1am in the morning and it seems super loud in the balinese style bedrooms (due to the bale ceilings), breakfast was appalling (we only had it one morning and chose to eat out instead), when the power goes off you have NO water at all, the living area was unusable as their was 1 3 seater wooden bench and 2 chairs to 'laze' on which were completely uncomfortable, the linen was changed and cleaned daily, however it still seemed slightly grubby, we dropped our key to security each time we left however anyone could access the key as the security were often asleep on a sofa therefore anyone could grab the key from the front desk.
I am not normally a huge complainer for accommodation but after being to friends of ours that had a huge beautiful and well looked after 3 bedroom villa just minutes away @ $280 a night I really started to doubt the value for money. Do yourself a favour and go a little further out of Seminyak/Petingenet as a taxi back is about $1-$2. You will get a bigger, more beautiful villa for maybe cheaper. If you are going away to party with some friends then this villa is close to everything you need and not bad value. But I would recommend trying to get the price down to about $200 a night. Bali has such a huge variety of Villas available now and its just trial and error unfortunately. Good luck. :-)

Just returned from a 7 day holiday at Villa Carissa. My husband & I went with another couple & their 15mth old son + our 10mth old daughter. Organising this was SO EASY as Neil (the contact) lives in Sydney & is happy to email or chat to u on phone re properties. Criteria for us was Glass bifold doors blocking the pool from the lil ones & keep bugs out of kitchen TV room.
Pros's ~
LOCATION ~ right next to Ultimo. perefct loco for kids & an early dinner. In the heart of "posh seminyak"
ALL baby equipment provided (we got 2 sets of eveything)
Mobile phones x 2 provided
Private pool
Great comfortable beds & clean villa
Excellent staff, so friendly & yummy breakfast
Con's~
Small area out near pool not much play room for kids but ours played upstairs on the deck.
Dogs barked ALL NIGHT in near by properties
Upstairs shower lacks any pressure
AIR Con broke in Master room on 2nd last night ~ kept on shorting power & made room very hot for bubba :(
Overall. Very happy with value for money!! The staff were FANTASTIC & Neil was a wonderful assist pre leaving AUS. Def recommend for family on budget with kids :)
Next trip we hope to try their new villa's specifically Villa KIpas!

Somehow i stuffed up our booking in the previous hotel and Villa Petra was available for one night before we moved into Villa Carissa for a further 4 nights. Staff are lovely, we chose to eat out for breakfast on all but one occasion. This was through no fault of the staff, the breakfast was yummy. We just chose to eat out given the proximity to most restaurants.
Both Villas were immaculate. It should be noted that on other reviews complaints have been made about noise levels - sleeping downstairs we heard no noise.
The pool was the perfect size for our 9 year old to have lots of fun. Baby equipment for our other child was also provided (baby cot and monitor); the Villa's are spacious and would easily suit two couples or a large family. The bedrooms are both separate to the main living area, so we were able to watch TV without disturbing the children as they slept. TV and DVD player provided allowed us to have a couple of early nights watching DVD's which was great.
The best thing about the villa's is location, location, location. It is only walking distance to Ultimo, Rumours, Bodyworks, Cafe Bali, Bali Bakery, Seminyak Square. It will definately be recommended to our family and friends.
Only suggestion i would have is that the paving stones in the showers need to be moved back in the downstairs shower as you have to stand on pebbles to get the shower head directed on you, but hey that's just me being picky.
Thanks to all the staff for making our stay lovely

Basically the villa we stayed in was not as good as property photos suggested – it is tired and in need of paintwork and clean up. Besides bedrooms and bathrooms, all other areas including patio/outside area were much smaller than pictures lead you to believe. The living room was not nice at all. It was very small and claustrophobic with two uncomfortable wooden chairs and a bench seat with throw cushions– where were the fabric sofas that were in the pictures? Paint peeling, mould on the wall in kitchen. No bi fold doors to the living area meant rain blew into room and spread across the floor. To fix this we had to drop down both roller blinds to close the opening but who wants to be in a living room with no natural light, no airflow and two big blinds covering any views. Despite air-conditioning, sealing of bedrooms is not very good and noise is an issue from dogs, fireworks and nearby restaurants/music venues. Not creative with breakfast and no choice of having Indonesian food instead of an "American" Breakfast. No stereo – why?

It wasn’t all bad though and the staff were very friendly and helpful, the pool was nice and the garden tidy. Both bedrooms and bathrooms were a good size and had comfortable beds and good showers. Close to restaurants. Maybe the other villas on the property are better than the one we had.

Having lived and worked in Bali I know how expensive a villa during the summer is, especially in Seminyak. Sekar Taman could not be in a better location for eateries, which allowed us to let our teenage daughter and friends wonder round on to eat street in the evenings, whilst we kept an eye on our toddler.
The villa had ample space, and other than the pillow issue (which someone else has raised), and a drainage problem that occurred due to rain (was sorted quickly), we can't really complain.
Staff were very friendly and dealt with any things we raised.
We will definately stay again.
