“Luxurious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

Tried this with my college friends way way back. We really had an amazing stay. Our room is with 2 Queen size bed.. I think.. and in order for us to get in our room we need to ask for a ride through a mini golf cart. Uber spacious room with a breathtaking bathroom facilities. We also tried the beach in this hotel. The hotel has its own cinema theater but unfortunately we did not have the chance to try it. Magnificent hotel and if you want to feel luxurious... you should really stay here!

The Empire Hotel is, quite simply, the finest hotel or resort I have ever stayed at.

The hotel is opulent enough to be a palace. The reception area is particularly impressive, with crystal chandeliers, gilded marble columns, and an almost 180 degree view of the South China Sea. The rooms were well-appointed with nearly every possible comfort; my room also had a great view of the ocean. The service that we received was top-notch too: every staff member we spoke to was polite, friendly and helpful.

The resort facilities are great: there are four pools, a cinema, an eight-lane bowling alley, and a golf course: you won’t be bored. As a business traveller, I also appreciated the free Wifi – there was good coverage everywhere we went and it was fast enough to make FaceTime calls on.

There is a good selection of restaurants on-site with a variety of both eastern and western food. Two things to be aware of though: firstly, alcohol is not available for sale anywhere in Brunei, however if you’re a foreigner you can bring a limited quantity into the country (1 bottle of spirits or wine, or 12 cans of beer) providing you declare it at the airport. Secondly, there are no pork products available so if you see something resembling a bacon rasher on the breakfast buffet, be aware that it is likely beef jerky coloured to look like bacon… not very nice. Aside from the fake-bacon though, I enjoyed every meal I had at the Empire.

Overall we had an outstanding experience and look forward to returning in the future.

Stay there for one night during my trip in Brunei and Malaysia. Beyond 5 stars, everything looks luxury, Room is large, everything just looks more luxury than other 5 star hotels right after you enter the lobby. I heard the ice container in the room is made of gold! The food is just amazing, beach is beautiful.

I have never stayed in a six star hotel before and the entrance to the hotel is breathtaking. The grounds surrounding the hotel are beautiful and the pool is itself fit for a Sultan.
My only complaint being that the resort is out of the main City area and there was limited choices for eating and NO alcohol for sale anywhere even in the restaurants at the hotel. Having a banana milk shake mocktail with dinner just does not quite "do" it for me.

Room Tip: Had an ocean view room but a quite a walk from the main Hotel area. Could get a shuttle but did not...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your constructive review, which I have taken careful note of.

I agree that it is best to book a deluxe bedroom in the Atrium, with views of the South China Sea, and I can advise you that we will be introducing a new offering of food and beverage shortly.

We hope to welcome you and your friends back in the not too distant future.

Sincerely,

I really enjoyed my stay at the Empire. It is a beautiful huge property, with very elegant rooms and beautiful and large marble bathrooms.
The beach facing the South China Sea was amazing and so it was the sunset! Both pools are huge and great for swimming and relaxing.
The service was great, specially at the front desk and breakfast/dinner areas, but I did find the concierge not very helpful. Asking for driving directions to the city (they wouldn't give us a map or any tips on how to get and what to do in the city) On another occasion, I asked the concierge about the showtimes at the cinema, and after waiting for 10 minutes, he said he couldn't help us and we should go to the cinema to check the showtimes ourselves. Definitely not a 5 star experience.
Breakfast was good but I would have preferred to have natural fruit juices and a bigger selection of fruits (only melon, watermelon, apples and pears available).
The buffet seafood dinner was great and quite good value and so was the High Tea.
Overall a great stay and will definitely go back in the future! Hopefully these minor issues can be solved with training! Thanks again.

To wake up here means having a breathtaking sunrise greet you each morning. One also gets to soak up on the culture of the country - The Empire Hotel & Country Club pretty much reflects the beauty of Brunei Darussalam.

The rooms at The Empire Hotel & Country Club are very elegant. I love the bed, the marble-clad bathrooms, the carpet, and how every detail's ingeniously set to make you feel like a king or a princess. Aside from these, I had all my top three hotel room must-haves:
a) enough electrical sockets
b) hair dryer
c) super fast free wi-fi in the room

Everything at The Empire Hotel & Country Club's postcard-perfect.
