This is an amazing hotel. I lived in Brunei and used to know the old manager well. Times have changed and things have continued in a steady decline in Brunei. To fill you in this hotel isnt a hotel. Its intention was for dignitaries to come and stay. That really only happened for a while in its early days. Lets just say to cut a long story short, that money in the country to a large extent stopped being spent. This is what has happened across all of Brunei. This is why many things are falling into decline at the Hotel, despite the best efforts of staff. Come here, play golf, swim in the pool, try the other courses(there are plenty) and bring some wine or spirits with you as this Hotel and Brunei itself is dry.You will have to drink it in your room. Sometimes you will get great service, sometimes not. This is asia and you have to learn to roll with the punches. Its still worth staying at this Hotel, warts and all, you will never experience anything like it again. Day trips, its worth going up to Temburong and walking around the water village in town. Everywhere is fine to eat,you wont get sick. Be brave try it all. The indian food and Japanese food in Brunei is very good. Try escapade sushi in Gadong and any little humble indian place you see.
