“Disappointing and certainly not 4 star”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2012

Beautiful setting and great views however being a 4 star establishment I was expecting a bit more attention to detail and some luxuries. The towels were not great and were left wet in the bathroooms and all the rooms lead directly on to the breakfast/lounge area. This limits privacy and detracts from any kind of romantic weekend. The bar had no other drinks except the house wines, muffins were a few days old, watered down orange juice and cold breakfast. If you wanted anything other than filter coffee with breakfast you needed to pay !

I expected some form of bar snacks to have with sundowners but there were none - not even a packet of crisps to purchase.

The hostess really does try and is very friendly however she seems to be doing everything from checking you, pouring wine, clearing dishes and making coffee which is not feasible.

The showers were really nice and hot and great water pressure but again attention to detail. The shower heads could have been better.

Its a pity - the setting is magnificent and with some attention to detail this could live up to the 4 star rating.

We really loved the place, air conditioned which was great as it was scorching hot! The owners also lent us fishing rods and organised a bottle of wine so that we could go fishing at the dam on their property. I would thoroughly recommend Val du Charron

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2011

we were invited to join a wedding party for the weekend at Val Du Charron, I'd never heard of it, as a matter of fact Wellington was never a destination I'd given much thought to, We decided to do the scenic route via Baine's kloof, this in itself is quite an experience and one everybody should do, especially on a beautiful day. Val Du Charron impresses, well appointed double and family rooms, I think there're 8 in all, with magnificent views overlooking vineyards and mountains. Our room was spacious and fairly large by today's standards. The shower room is small but not uncomfortable. Breakfast was good, wholesome fare. We enjoyed a light lunch which was a tad dissapointing, we decided on the tempura prawns, too doughy, we opted for a local red to accompany our meal which was delicious. The wine list is limited (the vineyards are only just coming into production). The owner joined us for drinks on Friday evening, he's charming and very enthusiastic, nice guy! I would gladly recommend this as a good destination, I'd like to go back in the autumn to do some photography and do a little exploring too. A great discovery. on the negative side though I thought our lunch was over-priced, I'm sure one could do a little exploring and find nice eateries nearby. The staff are all friendly, helpful, enthusiastic and willing to please.
