We were a family with 3 children and stayed for 2 nights.
The rooms were beautiful, and bathrooms huge and spotless. We were given a warm welcome and the children all shared a room which was no hassle at all.
The garden and grounds are lovely, and sadly for us it was raining so we couldn't enjoy the pool and hammocks. The breakfast was the best of our trip, and there was a list of about 15 types of tea to choose from, and little dainty pastries, pieces of smoked salmon and delicious fruit salad.
Overall, I would certainly recommend Bloomestate. This is a lovely place to stay, and probably suited best for couples and families with older kids rather than toddlers - our girls loved it and are aged 9-13. There are lots of good restaurants near by, and the massage at the spa was fantastic.

We booked very last minute (same day!) and the hosts were hugely accommodating and welcoming. We were a party of three and they saw it no hassle to add an extra bed into one of the suites for us.

The location is tranquil and immaculate. I have never seen a bathroom so clean! As three friends on a road trip, we spent most of our time in the outdoor Jacuzzi putting the world to rights over a couple of bottles of wine. There is an honesty bar which is reasonably priced.

The next morning I sat by the pond on the jetty watching birds dip down into the water, getting their breakfast. Blue water lilies were just opening. It really was a fantastic way to start the day. The smell of lavender by the rooms is also a wonderful touch to help you unwind.

The hosts were very friendly and loved showing us their new puppy, who we played with after breakfast. Breakfast was FANTASTIC! I could have stayed there all day grazing on the buffet offerings alone.

I really recommend this place as the ideal stop off on the Garden Route. I wish we had stayed more than one night.

Room Tip: We had a room by the Jacuzzi and pond. lovely.

What a fantastic b&b hidden away in
Swellendam. Title 'b&b' doesn't do it justice. Rooms are fabulously decorated and host and hostess very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was superb. Was given a great recommendation by owners for dinner - Field and Fork - which was fabulous. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a stop off along the way.

This was a great experience, as well the authentic personal approach by hosts Maarten & Carla as well as the stylish accommodation & facilities (including great breakfasts which we optimally enjoyed!). Maarten even mended the tire of our rental car instantly so we could enjoy our stay in Swellendam & surroundings to the max. It really feels like home @ Bloomestate!!

It was not my first time at Bloomestate but my experience was like it was my first time. Such a warm welcome and it feels like "coming home"!
The breakfast was lovely, with fresh fruit, dutch cheese and eggs like you want them to have.
We had a lovely day at the swimming pool with a good glass of Bloomestate wine.
So I would recommend this place to everybody who pass Swellendam!

We stayed for 1 night at Bloomestate midway through our 2 week trip around South Africa. We were looking to break the long drive from Stellenbosch and Knysna for one night in a nice and relaxing hotel in Swellendam, which we chose based on the fantastic reviews it had on TripAdvisor. I am sad to say that we did not have the same experience as other travellers, and this was a huge disappointment. We arrived by car at exactly 8.15pm after a long drive that took us slightly longer than expected. We were greeted in a cold and matter-of-fact way by the owner, Maarten, who expressed his displeasure with us arriving at what he for some reason perceived extremely late with a gesture pointing to his watch. He also made a snarly comment: 'there is such a thing as a phone you know'. He also seemed displeased with us for not arriving for dinner which they apparently were waiting for us with; something that baffled me as our printed confirmation from Booking.com mentioned bed & breakfast and we did not pre-book any dinner. And it was just 8.15pm for heaven's sake - hardly a late time for a Friday evening meal, or any evening! The reservation did not state either that we should inform anyone if arriving after a certain time. We asked where we could eat and Maarten suggested a restaurant across the street but continued to stress us out by saying we will probably not be served any more because it's now almost 8.30pm! Needless to say the restaurant was completely in full swing of Friday night dinner with several guests arriving even much later than us and everyone was very relaxed. We simply could not grasp why the owner was acting like we arrived in the middle of a night and were a nuisance to him. Of course such unpleasant welcome completely spoiled our stay. The next morning at breakfast we were served a tasty and well presented breakfast, however with a somewhat fake smile from the owner. It seemed he still did not get over the previous night. Although the hotel is really lovely designed with great pieces of design furniture and beautiful grounds, it felt very clinical to us. I work for one of the world's largest hotel booking companies in the world and travel and stay at countless hotels and guest houses around the world, but this is the first time I was treated like this. A hotelier in a boutique hotel of this quality and price range should not be treating guests like he did. I do note however the fantastic reviews of other travellers and acknowledge this may be a rare instance at this establishment, however our stay there put a sour experience on our otherwise lovely holiday. Also I would like to mention that we requested a twin room and were assured in an email we would receive a room with two separate beds but on arrival received a room with a double bed without any explanation or apology; not ideal when travelling as two friends. One positive experience - we loved the scent and beauty products in the adjoining Rain spa and bought quite a few of them.

After a long and nice run of beautiful reviews, its with great sadness to read this affecting review.
It left us with confusion, as the guest left us no sign of any discomfort and stayed even longer to have a late check out in the mid-afternoon.
As it is against our ethic dignity to argue the facts in public, we can only say that we are very sad to hear this misinterpretation and it was certainly not our intention, as we pride ourselves with proven high standards of personal service and attention.
