A friend and I happened to come upon Pennant Wing whilst wandering through Swellendam.
We were drawn in by the friendly smile of Louie and the aromas of fresh pastries. We glanced through their menu and found each option more attractive than the previous, also noting a fantastic display of the pastries which had initially brought us inside.
We had decided to consider our options for a moment, but were back very soon - seated and ordering their chicken wrap, which was delicious, delicately flavoured and affordable.
No time was wasted, though, in moving on to our original purpose:
I enjoyed a "Rocky Road", which was perfectly baked and carefully covered with chocolate and nuts. Their cappucino was fresh, well-prepared and everything that good coffee should be.
My friend enjoyed the most amazing baklava either of us had ever tasted and found their white hot-chocolate to be an absolute treat.
The meal, however, was only a part of what made the experience so special. Both Geoffrey and Louie made an enormous effort to serve and talk to each of their customers - ensuring that everyone was comfortable, warm enough and managing to access their wifi successfully.
We spoke for a good deal and they were probably the friendliest, most welcoming hosts that we have ever had the good fortune of meeting.
The visit made these strangers in Swellendam feel all the more at home and will definitely stand out as a highlight in my "coffee shop tourism" journal for many years to come.
