“Feeling at home at Somerset Hill”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

This year we have again stayed at Somerset Hill Guest House for several weeks.
An excellent place to stay from where many many trips can be made to the Cape Winelands, Cape Town, the coast etc. etc. The guesthouse is ideally situated on a hill and offers a great view over the valley, the mountains and the ocean. Violaine and her parents really do everything to make your stay unforgettable. Breakfast is really outstanding and the best we ever experienced. The rooms are very beautiful and most of them spacious with their own terrace. Besides the owners, also the staff is very friendly and helpful and makes you feel at home. In other words a place to cherish and to return!

Room Tip: Try to get one of the upper floor rooms, giving breathtaking views

We stayed here for one night in Febr 2013 as a stop-off . The guest house is owned and run by a wonderful family who welcomed us very warmly on arrival. The rooms were spotlessly clean and warm. The linen, towels and toiletries were of a very high quality and the beds were very comfortable. The bathrooms were immaculately clean and well stocked.
Service was faultless and the breakfast was very good with plentiful choices.
There are 9 bedrooms in two different building, each with a swimming pool.
There is also a kitchen with honesty bar and we enjoined a glass of champagne before dinner
We definitely recommend somerset hill guesthouse.

Room Tip: We had a garden view room, it was nice

This is the best B&B we have stayed in so far, and we have travelled extensively in this region. the rooms are gorgeous, and have every facility you need. The furniture throughout is beautiful, comfortable and stylish. the gardens are lovely, and the two pools are a lovely temperature to swim in. The breakfasts are plentiful and delicious, and there is a well appointed kitchen in case you wish to cook something. The hosts Laurence, Renaud and Violaine could not have been more charming, welcoming and helpful. We did not want to leave. This is definitely a must - not to be missed.

On trip to SA spent 5 nights here to attend a wedding in Stellenbosch and to be near friends. Our friends who have lived in SA for 30 years were very impressed with this accomodation as they have used many B&B's through out Cape town in that time.

The wonderful place is run by 2 couples from Germany. It is brand new and beautifully decked out with their treasures and art.
They are all so friendly and out to please where ever they can. You also feel as your privacy is respected .
Our room have a sea view and as it is high on the hill it is very good. A good selection of breakfast foods are available.
I wish we had stayed there longer on our trip

There was nothing we could fault in this establishment. We recommend it highly

  • Liked — Spotless and owners very helpful and friendly
  • Disliked — Nothing
  • Tips/Secrets — If you want the view be prepared to climb stairs to your rooms
