Description: Founded in 1700, Lourensford Estate has married its historic heritage with a vision to be at the forefront of modern wine technology and a leader amongst South African Wine producers. Owner & Executive Chef, Bjorn Guido’s cooking career started at The Greenhouse at Cellars-Hohenort under chef Peter Templehoff. He then moved abroad and joined Babington House, part of the SOHO HOUSE group, under the renowned Ronnie Bonetti of River Café London. After gaining experience abroad, he returned home and took up the role of Head Chef at The Franschhoek Kitchen on Holden Manz Wine Estate. Food provenance and sustainability are core to Millhouse’s philosophy with much of the seasonal, local ingredients grown on the farm itself. The eatery’s contemporary barn-conversion interiors puts a modern twist on classic elements, featuring a mix of banquette seating and reclaimed timber walls. Bjorn’s aim was to create a neighbourhood feel where guests can relax and enjoy each other’s company. Take a seat at our bar and watch as food is prepared in the expansive open kitchen and Italian style pizza’s are delivered fresh from the wood fired oven.

“What great potential ?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

We have visited the millhouse kitchen many times since its opening and enjoyed it thouroughly. It's a fantastic venue and we have brought many friends there. The food is generous and well priced. We have however noticed that the service has still not improved, the servers are very slow, sloppy, and hardly break a smile. They all seem very unenthusiastic and bored. The friendly atmosphere that they started with has disappeared. The pizzas that we loved seemed to have changed in the last month - the coppa and the parma is leathery, very dark and tastes very much like vacuum packed and not fresh. I really hope that the owner or owners spend some time on the floor making some changes or getting their staff better trained and motivated. It will be sad to see it go down.

“What a gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

We have been here several time's and will keep on coming back for more. The food is excellent and reasonably priced. The venue is Fantastic!! Families with young kids to the back( that's us), which is perfect as there is a jungle gym and a huge lawn for the kids to play on. For the more serious diner there is the front section with no kids!! What a gem. Service is not the greatest(I am not sure if it is the kitchen that is slow)

“Amazing Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2012

We just had Christmas Eve dinner at the Millhouse kitchen and once again the experience was superb.

The food was amazing and the ambience is unbeatable. The setting is superb and the experience is first class.

We highly recommend this restaurant and it really should be ranked number 1 in the area.

“A Restaurant with all the right stuff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

Wow! That was my impression as I walked into the Millhouse. I was greeted by the most stunning decor and seated in the middle area on an old church bench overlooking the restaurant and an open kitchen which was buzzing with activity
I had the flatbread with my wine to start with as we had some time waiting for our guests to arrive
I had the squid starter which was ever so slightly spicy yum yum! I then ordered the slow roasted duck which was amazing. My partner had the Beetroot salad which was generous and tasty
The children gobbled their pizza's and spent their time playing on the back lawns
Well done to Dominique our young waitress for being so efficient and friendly,as we will be back!
