Description: Founded in 1700, Lourensford Estate has married its historic heritage with a vision to be at the forefront of modern wine technology and a leader amongst South African Wine producers. Owner & Executive Chef, Bjorn Guido's cooking career started at The Greenhouse at Cellars-Hohenort under chef Peter Templehoff. He then moved abroad and joined Babington House, part of the SOHO HOUSE group under the renowned Ronnie Bonetti of River Cafe London. After gaining experience abroad, he returned home and took up the role of Head Chef at The Franschhoek Kitchen on the Holden Manz Wine Estate. Food provenance and sustainability are core to Millhouse's philosophy. The eatery's contemporary barn-conversion interior puts a modern twist on classic elements, featuring a mix of leather banquette seating and reclaimed timber walls. Bjorn's aim was to create a neighbourhood feel where guests can relax and enjoy each other's company. Watch as food is prepared in the expansive open kitchen and Italian style pizza's are delivered fresh from the wood fired oven.

“Fun for all”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2012

If you have kids and if you want fine dining and a relaxed atmosphere. In other words you want it all, this is the place. The gardens are beautiful, but robust so the youngsters can enjoy themselves. There is also a fair kiddies meal. For the parents there is excellent fare and wines at a very reasonable price.
We have been here several times and it's always superb.

“Relaxed dining in a beautiful wineland setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2012

I can only agree with all previous reviews.

Excellent food, wine and service in a beautiful wineland setting, but what really attracted me is the relaxed, informal, yet upmarket, atmosphere. The menu is innovative with some local favourites and it changes regularly.

The restaurant will be closed for renovations for two months until approximately the end of July 2012. On re-opening the name will change to The Millhouse Kitchen. The setting and the staff will, however, remain unchanged.

Will definitely visit again.

“Beautiful food, service, and location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2012

We had been staying in Somerset West for a week between Christmas & New Year, and on our last morning before flying back to Johannesburg, we went for a late breakfast at Lourensford. From the moment we arrived, it was a wonderful experience - the setting is just beautiful, and the restaurant is so lovely with amazing views over the grounds. The waiters were extremely helpful and rearranged the tables on the terrace so that we could sit outside and enjoy the weather - in fact, the service was faultless throughout. We all had a hearty breakfast, which was delicious - beautifully presented, but not fussy, generous portions but not so big that you left feeling stuffed, and really good sausages, which is sometimes a gripe of mine outside the UK!!

Along with our meals, we had some coffees - my dad and brother ordered an americano and asked for hot milk with it (the rest of us had lattes, cappucinos etc). When the coffees arrived, there was no milk, and so after a moment or two, we asked about this and the waiter took their coffees away, and returned a moment later with steaming hot coffee and milk to go with it, rather than just bringing out the milk - a really nice touch that was very classy and much appreciated!

I would certainly recommend this place for breakfast, and hope to sample more of their food on my next visit.
