I am always a little wary of restaurants with rave reviews and Avontuur was no exception. My husband and I decided to try the breakfast and we cannot fault the food which was delicious and well cooked. Service was fine, if a bit inattentive - lots of hand waving to get attention but the killer blow was the bill. Our request for an extra pot of tea meant we had been charged for two extra pots. My husband and I were a bit incredulous as we assumed (foolishly) that as we had ordered the full breakfast, it came with unlimited tea. Silly us - R28 extra for a pot for what is essentially a Rooibos tea bag and boiling water. One tea charge was removed, as we had not ordered two pots. We were also charged for ordering a second glass of orange juice (they are not large glasses) - no free refills, but interestingly not the toast - perhaps that was an oversight. Maybe it's just us - but we are not used to having to pay extra for tea when ordering a full breakfast - it seemed so mean. We left with a bitter taste in our mouths, which spoilt what had promised to be a lovely breakfast.
