“Disappointing!”

Stunning view with beautiful outdoor seating and good service but food disappointing and overpriced! Restaurant very quiet when we visited.

“Great Comeback”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

we used to come regularly to this great venue when it was operated by a Belgian proprietor and was mainly known for steak and frits as well as great muscle dishes.
Under Laura & Johann's guidance we have another great addition to wine and food in Somerset West. The restaurant's interior is unpretentious yet comfortable and stylish befitting it's great location and views. ( the outdoor seating is even more spectacular)
We were there for the second time with close friends and all had a memorable experience. The calamari starters were perfectly done and spiced to perfection, while by Johann's own admission the escargot needed a bit more herbs and garlic but were otherwise just fine.
The mains of filet presented in a wonderful red wine reduction, the chicken and pasta dishes were all very satisfying . The Zabaglione desert was simply divine. All of this was accompanied by wines from a very well selected list of mostly reasonably priced wines. The service was very attentive and personal.

“excellent experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

Beautifull place, with amazing scenic view to the bay, home atmosphere and really excellent food. Service by very kind people. Just thinking what to suggest, but problem is that everything is excellent - wine selection like in top european wine cellar, top local wines too, great steaks , pasta better than in Italy..:), wonderfull fresh Kingklip and their homemade bread.. vaw. Really if someone have trip around , try it, you will never forget...

“Rumor has it Capelands was good, once”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2012

It could have been so great...

The location on top of the hill, the old building, nothing wrong with that.

But then the dining experience...

The service: friendly, but without a clue. I never met a waitress who knew so little about what she sold.

The food: 1970s bistro style, microscopic quantities and badly prepared.

Are you looking for snails, they still have them. Or do you prefer a "seafood cocktail" consisting of 3 lettuce leaves and 7 prawns smothered in a cocktail sauce? They have that too...

When the main course, tuna, arrived it got even worse. Covered in poppy seed, cooked to the consistency of shoe leather, accompanied by 2 slivers of Japanese sushi ginger and a squeeze of wasabi from a tube floating in some soy sauce, it was for me the reason to ask for the bill, to pay and to never come back.
