Owner description: Wild Oats is a local farmers and food market located on the western outskirts of Sedgefield at the turnoff to Sedgefield Island. We are an award winning Garden Route landmark, open only on Saturday mornings from sunrise until 11:30. Not to be confused with the Scarab Craft Market to the far east of Engen Petrol Station or the Island Flea Market to the east of Wild Oats. As a food market, our open times are limited due to the short shelf-life of many of our LOCALLY PRODUCED products which include: Free-range chicken, beef, pork and lamb, free-range eggs, multiple cheese, dairy and baked products including fresh mozzarella, gouda, cheddar, blue-cheeses, cottage cheeses... milk, fresh fish, fruits, free-range vegetables in season, many traditional and exotic bottled goods, organic olives, berries, rusks, koeksisters, biltongs, beef-jerkey and wors, famous artisan breads, award-winning cheesecakes and goats cheeses... and on and on and on. Also a fabulous range of hot-off-the-grill breakfasts, coffees, teas and fresh-squeeze juices and smoothies. FOOD HEAVEN! Come face-to-face with our local producers every Saturday morning, come rain or shine.

“The best market around”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

We've been going to this market while on holiday for the past 4 years. It never fails to impress and has an eclectic variety of goods to buy. There's an excellent range of food products to take away or to eat whilst you're there, (you'll not be able to resist the temptation), crafts, clothes, jewelry, there's something for everyone. It has a very friendly community feel to it and the sound of live music fills the air while you're browsing around the different stalls. While we were there this year it was announced that the market had been voted in the top ten of its kind in the world.

Some very talented people.

“Good stuff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2012

Really worth a visit on a Saturday morning. Everything you need for a picnic basket - fresh bread, sausages, samoosas, olives, cheeses, vegetables, desserts - all local produce from talented producers in the area. Do not miss this.

“Great food, too many people”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2012

Let me start off by saying that I do not like markets. I despise flee markets most of all. So I am very critical when it comes to the open air shopping experience. However, this is a very nice market with delicious and top quality food. All organic and tasty stuff. Prices are good too. Problem is, we went the day before christmas. This meant that everyone in the Southern Cape was there and it was too crowded to breathe. Each stall had a waiting line. So, pick your day carefully but do go. It is worth it.

“Must do on a Saturday morning!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

Top tip for this market is get there early! The parking soon fills up (there is plenty though!) Head right through to the breakfast stalls- so tasty and very reasonably priced. Grab a seat under an umbrella and watch the hustle and bussle. After enjoying the food and great coffee, wander around the stalls picking up delicious local produce, a lot is organically grown. There is also lots of home made cakes, rusks, etc. Flower stalls, health foods, and soaps are worht a look at too.
Afterwards cross the car park and visit the scarab arts and crafts market for a lot of good quality souvenirs and clothing.
