“Beautiful, tranquile and perfect getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2011

We stayed at Die Laaitjie for a long weekend; I would highly recommend it as a family or romantic get away - beautiful natural surroundings, beautiful accommodation and excellent service.

Go and treat yourself :)

We stayed at Die Laaitje for 5 nights and it was the absolute highlight of our time in South Africa. We had booked a cottage; there are 3 of these and they are simple and stylish, with an open plan kitchen/dining room/living room, 2 double bedrooms, and a bathroom. They have large windows and a deck overlooking the mountains which surround the property. The setting is utterly beautiful. While they are not plush, they are perfect for a rustic stay where the scenery takes centre stage. They reminded us of Fattoria Barbialla Nuova in Tuscany, and Fabriken Furillen in Sweden.

Even better than this, the water broke in our room (it turned out to be an airlock which fixed itself) but no matter we were upgraded to the Main House which is in another league. It is much more opulent in style, has 4 ensuite bedrooms, some of which have bathtubs with views up the valley and over the mountains, and a vast kitchen. Then there are 3 big sitting rooms, and terraces on all sides so you can follow/avoid the sun all day as you like. There's a small pool, a private lake (!) and lovely cottagey gardens. Absolutely amazing.

The whole place is run by Bev who's a total star, and she'll give you tips for wineries and restaurants in the area. There's not a mass of attractions nearby: this for people who like reading books, lying in the sun, hiking, and soaking up the most intensely beautiful scenery; tough having said that you could fill the Main House with mates and have about the most awesome house party ever.

this was our return trip to "Die Laaitjie", we loved the accomodation, the farm with enough mod cons to make for a comfortable and relaxing holiday. You can fall out of bed into the pool or walk around the extensive property set in the most beautiful valley. We enjoy the area for its incredible wine farms and local produce that we brought back and cooked or barbecued on the stoep looking out at the setting sun.
For those that need a break from the quiet isolation, you can head 10 mins into town, for a cuppacino or a meal at a great restaurant or a wander through the antique stores or the famous cactus farm, and for those more adventurous their is the breede river close by for rafting and canoeing or just for a lazy cruise with a great glass of wine
