“Peace and Tranquility”

Carin and her team are awesome. Nothing is too much trouble for them, and the attention to detail is superb. We had a chance to unwind and re-charge before the madness of the new year kicks in. Excellent food and wine, magnificent surroundings, olde world charm with all the modern conveniences. Loved cycling through the vineyards and fell in love with the Alpaca's and really wanted to take the one home that looks like the "Cat in the Hat" - guess we'll just have to visit regularly as I'm sure he/she'll be lonely and out of sorts in the city! Certainly can recommend Excelsior for business, a romantic getaway, some personal time out or with friends, as there's loads to do in the area, or you can just veg at the pool, in the garden or the vineyards. Thank you so much for your hospitality - we will definitely be back!

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights over New Year and really enjoyed our visit. The house is very tastefully decorated in a style in keeping with the period it was built, yet with the mod cons one would expect in a modern guest house. Carin and her team of ladies looked after us extremely well and we had the feeling we were part of the family rather than guests. Breakfasts were delicious as were the dinners, with a different menu each evening. Alternatively one could visit any of the local vineyards or restaurants nearby. The wines are delicious and we were - as all guests are - invited to blend our own bottle of wine from their merlot, cabernet sauvignon and shiraz barrels. Delicious! The estate is huge and perfect for cycling / running / walking / exploring. Perfectly located in the Robertson valley and highly recommended. The only slight downside for me was there is a bit of noise in the house first thing in the morning as our room was nearest the front door and dining room etc, but I am a light sleeper and perhaps others wouldn't be too disturbed by this. When we return - and I'm sure we will soon! - I would ask for a room away from the dining room and kitchen.

Delicious food and wine. Relaxing in large pool with amazing view. Friendly dogs and horses on the farm, lovely walk through the vineyards, large be in room, with lovely and large garden to relax in. Wish we could have had longer to have arrived earlier and done the wine-tasting by the small lake. Short drive into pretty Montagu. Friendly and helpful host. Beautiful (but hot ) drive from here to Oudtshoorn.

My wife and I stayed here twice on our honeymoon. The first time was planned and booked, and the second time we were running away from a terrible hotel in Mossel Bay. The setting is to die for - beautiful vineyards, wonderful buildings (inside and out), a pool big enough to really enjoy. The gardens around the guesthouse are stunning - and you can easily while away time just walking around. Staying here and spending your days wine tasting and eating well, is a very good time. My only caution would be that the dinners on offer are OK if you are arriving late, or too tired to head out - but food in other restaurants in the area is a bit fancier and nicer. Breakfasts are excellent!

Room Tip: All rooms are unique, so ask Carin what your are looking for. Some have baths, others just showers...

Beautiful manor house surrounded by vineyards with a gorgeous mountain backdrop. Great place to relax by the pool and unwind from a hectic time in Cape Town. Rooms are large, luxurious and comfortable and Carin and Emily are wonderful hosts. Breakfast was varied with a fry-up always available. Blending your own win at the hut on the lake was a fun experience as well ! Dinner was good, albeit given the amazing food in Franschoek and the surrounding area, seemed a bit overpriced.

All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable stay!

Usually I will write a review if I'm disappointed by the place in orde to warn the other travelers. However, I believe that Excelsior Guest House deserves few good words.
We stayed for a night only but would have loved to extend for few more days. We loved the house and the interior design that is made with taste and attention to every detail. We felt very comfortable and like at home. The location is fantastic in the middle if the wine lands surrounded by mountains.
Our host Carin is a lovely lady an you should try her cooking.
Overall, great experience!

I was only here for one night but Carin and the team made me feel so welcome. had a reat drive around the vineyard in the golf buggy with the dog, and so enjoyed making my own bottle of wine. Dinner was delicious, and I was made to feel very much at home, so thank you to everyone at Excelsior! It was an incredibly relaxing 24 hours.
