“Excellent Hospitality and Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

Regina and Dick were perfect hosts, friendly and helpful without interfering. Our rooms were spacious and quiet despite being right on the main road; beds comfortable, everything clean, breakfast relaxed and tasty. We took the hosts' advice and did one of the short walks up and around the town. We were impressed with Prince Albert generally as there is much to do around the area. If ever returning to Prince Albert, I would stay at Saxe-Coburg lodge without hesitation.

We visited Prince Albert as part of a 2 week long tour of the Garden route. The drive in and our via the 2 passes are magnificant and the town very oldy worldy but very enjoyable. As for Saxe-Coburg, we loved it! Dick and Regina could not have been more welcoming and friendly, thier garden is an oasis of calm and tranquility. Our room was clean tidy, large and very comfortable, the whole feel of SC was one of restfulness. If you need to relax and slow down, I could not reccommend this wonderful establishment more highly.

This was our 5th year of staying at The Saxe-Coburg Lodge and it was as good as ever. We spend six weeks in South Africa touring around and avoiding the cold winter months of the UK. We always stay for 5 to 6 nights with Dick and Regina in their beatiful guest house. It is perfect in every way. Large rooms with comfortable beds, lovely garden and pool, excellent breakfasts and such charming hosts. We love staying here and hopefully will be coming back for many years to come.

This was our second visit to Saxe Coburg Lodge and this time it was pre-booked on the way to The Argus. The last visit was 'on spec' on the way back from the Cape Argus to Jo'burg. the accommodation is great and Regina and Dick are so welcoming. It is also a great place to cycle from with some long hills and beautiful countryside. The village is charming and enjoyable to wander around. However, for my mother in law travelling with us and visiting from the UK, the highlight was Dick's way of poaching eggs in a little water in a covered non stick pan. The eggs look as though they are fried, but taste poached!. Mum was raving and couldn't wait to try it herself on her return home.

Room Tip: All the rooms face onto the lovely garden and are well equipped.

2 years ago we stayed one night at Saxe Coburg Lodge and were very impressed, so much so that we made a special journey there on our last visit to South Africa in November last. We stayed two nights on this occasion.

Prince Albert is a delightful gem in the Karoo and definitely worth a visit. Good restaurants there too. However, for us, the main attraction is Saxe Coburg Lodge.

Regina and Dick are lovely hosts who look after their guests regally. The accommodation is excellent set in the midst of their charming large garden. Their attention to detail is terrific, everything is there, nothing they haven't already thought of to make their guests feel comfortable and relaxed. The rooms are very nicely furnished with the best bed linens. At breakfast Dick greets you with 'Good morning, how do you like your eggs?'. It's difficult to tear yourself away because they are such interesting people. Regina and Dick have travelled the world and are always anxious to hear of others' travels.

I stupidly left a print of The Karoo I had bought on the top shelf of the wardrobe. Didn't realise until I returned to Scotland. Immediately I contacted Regina she sent it off to me and would have done so earlier, had she known who it belonged to, and wouldn't hear of reimbursement for postage. That's the kind of people they are.

Room Tip: We loved the Albert Room.

My wife and I toured by car all over South Africa in January-February 2013. We stayed at a great many guest houses and B&B's. We found Saxe-Coburg Lodge in Prince Albert one of the very best. Prince Albert is in the centre of a delightful valley in the Karoo, famous for its figs, apricots, peaches and for its wines. The little town is a delight and Saxe-Coburg Lodge, right in the centre of the town, is a splendid place to stay. The hosts, Regina and Dick, could not have been kinder or more helpful. They have a variety of rooms, all lovely, looking out onto the spacious gardens. There are plenty of restaurants in the town and much to see and do. Very strongly recommended but book well in advance - it is a great favourite with repeat visitors.

Beautiful, large garden.Rooms and bathroom were excellent size and quality, each with it's own terrace.Price Albert is a small, rather charming but eccentric village and a marvellous place for visiting a couple of the most memorable mountain passes in South Africa
