“The secret life of Great Karoo plants”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

Wonderful to go walking with Sue Dean on the reserve, which encompasses many typical Karoo plants and some endemic to Prince Albert, as well as an old settlement site replete with original artefacts. A fine informative walk to recommend to one's guests, preferably on a sunny winter's day with fabulous views of the town and Swartberg foothills. Important too for educational purposes - the Karoo was never just an empty space!

Hugely informative, fascinating walk with Sue Dean. Take in the splendour of the Karoo veld as Sue shares her vast knowledge and makes the journey come alive explaining both flora & fauna, great, small & tiny - just takes one's breath away.

“Wonderful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

Thanks to Sue and her wealth of knowledge to show us the finer points of Karoo plant life. We had a wonderful 2 1/2 hours with her. On the surface (if you'll excuse the pun) it was just walking around what seemed a dry, lifeless bit of dirt. But Sue's insight, experience and explanations brought the whole area alive in the minutest detail. Wonderful!!!

“The Karoo veld through fresh eyes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

This is an absolute must for lovers of the outdoors and nature. The perception that the Karoo veld is barren and boring is very quickly dispelled after a walk on Wolwekraal with renowned botanist, Sue Milton Dean. The journey into the micro world of tiny succulents and symbiotic existence between insects and plants is nothing short of amazing. Sue has certainly opened my eyes to the small wonders of the Karoo. I walk much more lightly on the veld now and watch where I tread in fear of damaging this fragile and fascinating landscape.

This is an absolute MUST DO for visitors to Prince Albert.
