Each time we arrive in Cape Town we go here first. Great choices, always busy. Lovely to sit outside when you can

“Mojitos!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

The harbour is spectacular early in the morning and peaceful. Great vibe.Must admit a lot more touristy than our last visit and not quite as picturesque. Did not enjoy being harassed by the curio sellers, The view is stunning from upstairs on the verandah of the Wharfside Grill and the Mojitos from the Crawfish Club are the very best (especially as you get to keep the glass as a souvenir) The ambience in the restaurant is great but unfortunately my seafood curry was not what I expected

“Not recommended”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013 via mobile

South African relations urged us to eat fish and chips at Mariners' wharf in Hout Bay as a 'must do'. They obviously can't have ever eaten fish and chips in the UK.

The restaurant is all outside with wooden pub garden wooden tables. It's self service. The fish is just about passable, it the batter is greasy. This is not an experience to be repeated.

Dear Sir

I am sorry to hear that you disagreed with your relative's opinion/experience about the quality of the fish and chips at Mariner's Wharf. You obviously visited our more casual al fresco Seafood Bistro take-away downstairs, however if you wanted a more up-market serviced experience you would have been welcome to go upstairs to our Wharfside Grill restaurant. I assure you the hake used is freshly supplied every morning by our adjoining factory. The chips we blanch ourselves and we order in the best quality potatoes for this and the oil is checked daily and changed more than twice a week (unlike most other establishments). The batter (spiced flour) is deep fried in oil and drained before service but if you wished to have the less "greasy" version you were welcome to ask for the fish to be grilled. We do take your opinion seriously and we can see you are a well traveled person. We would love to challenge you to return to our upstairs restaurant to change your belief that good fish and chips can only be recommended in the "UK".

Sincerely

Shaun Bloch
