“The place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2014

We stayed 2 nights in this guest house and we loved our stay! We were welcommed by the the owner and her son. They were really nice and helpfull. We arrived around 7pm on friday, and we didn't know the city and we were looking for a place to eat. The son told us of a food market close to the harbour in Houtbay: this place was fantastic. It was a really good advice. Same thing about the wine: we were looking for a place to buy wine and the mother explains us in which shops we have to go.
The room was big with a really beautiful and design bathroom. After 3 weeks, the shower was one of the most best shower we had in South Africa. The view was amazing (on the pool and the landscape behind). All the house was really well maintained (the gras, the pool was cleaned every morning etc). The house is tastefully decorated.
The breakfast was delicious with plenty of choices (cheese, eggs, ham, croissant, bref, bircher... etc etc) and was served by a really nice guy.
The house is also good situated. Houtbay is a beautiful place and it's close from Cape town and from other point of view like Cape of good hope, Camps Bay, Table Mountain etc..
The last day when we lived the guest house we forgot a painting. They wrote me directly an email but I saw it to late (we were already at the airport). They told me that they could sent me it at home. It was really nice and helpful and we would like to thanks them again.
In conclusion, we finished our trip in South Africa in a wonderful place, and if we come back once, we'll sleep in this guest house for sure.

Great view, great rooms and friendly service. Walk in shower, heated floors and towel holder helped in the middle of winter. Breakfast was good with a variety of foods. Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely br going back!!!

Great central location above Haut Bay. Andreas, (the owners son) was super friendly and a wealth of information, he directed us to the best restaurant in the area and told us how to get in despite it being booked solid. We felt special from the start. The bed was the best of our month long visit exploring the " Garden route" from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth and back. The super Spacious down stairs suite was just what we needed to Chill out, do our Yoga exercises, and reorganize for our trip home. The shower head was great for my 6' 4" height. The kitchen was incredible even though we didn't make use of it, it even had an expresso maker. We are definitely coming back to Haut Bay and this will no doubt be our headquarters. Thank you Andreas, and thank your Mom for the wonderful breakfasts! The perfect way to start of end a perfect vacation. We love South Africa.. Ciao, Andy and Rebecca

Room Tip: The downstairs suite is the most spacious

After a month in Africa the stay here was peaceful quiet safe and an incredible view.
We felt like we were in Europe in the rooms with individual duvets on the most comfortable bed!
Breakfast was first class as is the hotel.
Hout Bay is the perfect place to launch and see the city center and all the beaches surrounding with too far to drive yet providing the getaway we desired.
Andreas was incredibly informative and a joy to converse with.
I would recommend to anyone to stay here.
Thanks for an incredible experience

Room Tip: We stayed in the suite with full kitchen and large living area very spacious and on the ground level...

We stayed here for 3 nights and we enjoyed our stay as the owner's son was super friendly and spoke fluent English. If it wasn't for him being there, I doubt the owner would have spoken to us as we hardly saw her. Breakfast was good, the view was ok. It is close to shops. There is good security at the guesthouse, we didnt have any issues. There is a dog on the premises and was quite annoying as she kept on barking at us, even came into the room. We used the Apple TV but it was a small selection of movies and some of the movies were only half of the movie but we only found out after watching the first half. We had to ask for the Apple TV to be setup, so again if the son wasn't there, I doubt we would have gained access to it. There is no DSTV. There was just SABC and 1 German channel. The biggest problem for us was the heat! It was December and there was no aircon or a ceiling fan! Parking is a bit of a problem, as it is a super steep driveway. The room was neat and the breakfast staff were good.

Room Tip: Luxury rooms are upstairs and right by the pool

Dear GadgetGir1,

Your review really surprised me!

I enjoyed taking care of your needs and our team thought I did a good job. As a result the owner did not see the necessity of having a second person look after you. It is also doubtful that she would have been able to add to our good natured discussions on the Apple versus Android front, or the matter of employment opportunities for South African programmers in Europe or the US.

You are correct of course that our entertainment selection on Apple TV is limited. We only have about 4000 songs and 43 movies. One can always have more and we will continue to add to the library…It is unfortunate, though, that you did not mention during your stay that a movie was incomplete. That would have given me the opportunity to solve the problem on the spot.

Unlike in Johannesburg, I think you will find that most guesthouses in the Cape Town area do not have air conditioning. The weather conditions are much milder, so air conditioning is rarely necessary. Due to our minimalistic design approach, we have not installed fixed ceiling fans. Instead, we offer our guests portable oscillating fans for those exceptional hot days. If you had mentioned the word “heat” in any of our discussioons, you would have had a fan immediately!

Jule, the dog you mentioned, is very young and playful. The guests who previously stayed in your room absolutely fell in love with her and spoiled her with attention. Jule was looking for her playmates, when she entered your room. It is our policy that the dog should not be in a guest room and generally try to prevent this. Your comment would have shown a little less bias, if you would have also included that you have a dog phobia.

The view is very subjective. Most guests love it. You don’t…

Nonetheless, we thank you for the other positive comments.

We have spend one week in the Platinum Guesthouse and for us it was the perfect place to stay! The location of the guesthouse is good from their it is easy to explore cape area.
The rooms and the breakfast are outstanding and the owner has been very friendly and helpful.
It started with a glass of bubbles when we arrived and ended with a late check out as a compliment from the house.
What we really loved was the Apple-TV withe the movies and the good choice of music, that is something we haven't found some where else.
Important for us was the secure system. After reading the story from " Lewisgirl " we decided to give them a call and asked rubout the standard of the security system and they have told us, that the problem with the gate is fixed and that it is closing now after some minutes on his own. As well they have upgraded the system and it is now one of the best on the market.

" NO security risk, you can stay there " !!!
