“Lovely!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2010

My new husband and I stayed here for two nights as part of our honeymoon in South Africa. It's a lovely relaxed, friendly place to stay. Right in the heart of the village with easy access to all the restuarants and shops. Our room had beautiful mountain views and was tastefully decorated. We found all the staff and the owners Ruth and Frank to be very friendly and helpful. We went on a wine tour with Frank which was a great way to explore the valley and pick up some fantastic wine!

Ruth, Frank, Michael, Jessica and the wonderful ladies of Rusthof made our stay truly wonderful. We were met by Jessica the evening of our arrival where she was friendly to the point of making us feel truly welcome as well as relaxed. The following morning we were greeted by the Mc Court family and then proceeded to have a the best scrambled eggs ever! The rooms were comfortable, clean and beautifully decorated. We had a heap of washing and told the ladies not to hurry but by the late afternoon our heap of laundry was back in our room, service that truly exceed our expectations. To top our wonderful stay, we dined at Ryan's on our second last evening and the experience their complimented our stay at Rusthof very well. The food was excellent the service relaxed and unobtrusive and our host, Ryan's wife, was gracious and helpful. All in all, a wonderful experience. Thank you very much all at Rusthof Country House.

Rusthof Country House was our first stay in South Africa after arriving overnight and quite tired from the UK. Having never visited the country before we were unsure of exactly what to expect. We booked in and were made extremely welcome by the proprietors, Frank and Ruth, and shown to our beautiful rooms. Ruth had already gone to the trouble of provisionally booking a table for dinner at Le Bon Vivant, which was excellent and saved us the bother of searching for somewhere to dine on our first night, as many restaurants are fully booked weeks ahead! This made our first day very special. The next day Ruth recommended lunch at La Brasserie (which was to become our future son-in-laws favourite) and dinner that evening at Mont Rochelle, which with views over Franschoek was amazing. We had booked a wine tour at the Boschendal vineyard including La Pique-Nique, highly recommended.
Our stay at the Rusthof was excellent in every way, rooms, breakfast, setting, staff and our hosts who attended to every detail during our stay.
We cannot thank them enough, and hope that one day we can make a return visit and stay a little longer.
We recommend to everyone that you include the Rusthof Country House and Franschoek in your itinery while visiting South Africa, to miss out on this would be a great shame!

I work for Rhino Africa in Cape Town and we were invited to stay on the 2nd October. I hadn't seen the property before and I was very impressed. The guest house is located right on the high street (it doesn't have the best road side appeal) but once you walk into the building it opens up and it's really beautiful. The rooms are incredibly spacious with all the amenities you would need. The rooms have quite an old fashioned feel to them which I know some clients prefer - rather than the new modern guest houses that have no personal feel to them. The breakfast was good - I liked the fact that you can see into the kitchen - which was immaculate.
I wish them all the best - you have an amazing product and I can definitely recommend it.
Thanks
Helen

We are a mexican family that are not used to stay at Guest houses. But it was a great experience to stay in some of them during our trip to SA.
Rusthof is a beautiful home in the main street at Franschhoek a walking distance to the most popular shops and restaurants.
We arrive around 7pm and two nice ladies guided to our rooms to check everything was set for us. The rooms are beautiful decorated.
The house has a big and very nice kitchen where a good breakfast is served. We couldn´t have lunch or dinner at Ryan´s Kitchen (the name of the house restaurant) as they closed on Sunday nights and on Mondays. It was a pity to miss that as everyone told us that was really good. We only stay for one night and we were sorry for that too. Thank to Ruth and all her staff.

We visited the Franschhoek Bastille Festival and were very well placed to walk to all venues and explore. The check-in was personal and friendly and the room very comfortable, pre-warmed on a cool night. The restaurant was an excellent experience, with dinner featuring unique dishes, excellent service and an interesting setting of being able to watch our meals being prepared. Breakfast was yummy and chatty and the stay memorable. A sure sign of a caring hostess was the in-room folder which featured carefully thought out recommendations of activities in the area. Very special! Shaun & Bev van Eck

We stayed here during the World Cup of June 2010. Franschhoek was a bit distant from the excitement and we just had a wonderful time.

The staff, including the owner, Ruth, of Rusthof were wonderful. They helped us out with what to see in Franschhoek. The room was great. Reservations were easy to make.

Plus, the restaurant at Rusthof was also wonderful.

Just really a great two nights.
