“Fabulous Guesthouse”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2007

My husband I stayed at the Plumwood Inn for 4 nights in December 2006. The owners, Raoul & Lucienne are a lovely, young, hardworking, Dutch couple who have put their heart and soul into the upgrading of this guesthouse and will who bend over backwards to assist you in any way they can. There are rooms in the main house and also apartments at the top of the garden overlooking one of 2 swimming pools. We stayed in one of the two upstairs bedrooms (all with AC) in the main building, which although not the biggest room I've ever stayed in, was more than adequate for our needs and had a decent sized, modern shower room leading off. There were no seating areas within our room but there were ample communal areas to sit elsewhere - either in the main house or an annexe at the top of the garden where you had facilities to read, drink complimentary tea/coffee etc or sip wine from the honesty bar. Lucienne is quite the cook and she takes great pride and enjoyment in providing for her guests - whether it be sumptious banana bread, muffins at breakfast time,or full evening meals. Location-wise, the Plumwood is ideally situated at the Hugeneot monument end of the main street, within an easy 10 minute walk of all the main restaurants and shops. There is also off-street parking for approx 4 cars. I have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending the Plumwood Inn to others, no matter what age group. I think it would be particularly well suited to couples travelling together as the layout of the apartments with large balconies, overlooking the garden ,lend themselves well to a group of people.

The Plumwood Inn is perfectly situated on a quiet street parallel to the main road in Franschhoek. Two houses make up the guesthouse, with a pool (one larger than the other) in front of each house. We stayed in a fabulous room in the original house - with a balcony with a view of the town and the vineyards and a comfortable private sitting area just outside our room. The hosts, Lucienne and Roel, as well as the manager, Hazel, were all quite friendly and helpful, and breakfast was delicious. We will certainly return to the Plumwood Inn the next time we visit the Winelands.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights in December 2006. Roel and Lucienne were perfect hosts, looking after our every wish and baking lovely plum cake for breakfast one day. The breakfasts were very good. Our room was very comfortable with a large bathroom. It was all very clean. The Inn itself is a small romantic retreat in the heart of Franschhoek, within easy walking distance of the main street and all the excellent restaurants. We went to a wine tasting at Haute Cabriere 2km away and had lunch at the award winning restaurant - unmissable!

This lovely country guest house is situated within a short stroll of all the fantastic restaurants that this small town has to offer.

The accomodation was very modern and clean, the husband and wife team were brilliant hosts, and the pool area was very relaxing and serene.

Roel gave us some excellent restaurant suggestions and for this very upmarket location the bill at the end of our stay was most reasonable.

We would definately stay here again to explore the winelands.
