“Lunch with a view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2014

We came only for lunch, we didn't stay at the hotel.

The setting and view from the restaurant is amazing. You see the whole valley and there are vineyards for miles... We had the risotto and it was very good. Make a reservation, this is a popular place.

We've stayed before, but over two years ago. Returned to room 1 - Vista, which we think has the best position of ALL the rooms for 4 nights. Short walk to the restaurant and winery, yet far enough away not to be bothered by it, superb view over the vineyard and perfect privacy on the terrace. The toom has a very large double bed, with a comfy sitting area. Good sized fridge for storing all the wine we bought and cheese and buscuits for lazy evenings on the terrace. New flat screen TV's have been installed - I turned it on once, but it's not really a TV kind of holiday! The bathroom has a stand-alone tub which my wife said was wonderful. The walk-in shower was great for me. Twin basin so no arguing between us! Plenty of storage and a safe. Having been visiting La Petite Ferme for over 15 years, we, at last did the winery tour with John Dendy-Young. Somehow, he manages to give his fascinating talk as though he's doing it for the first time - full of enthusiasm - and yet he must have done it thousands of times! If you do one proper tour, do it at La Petite Ferme with John. Of course we'll be back - the price is right and the view never changes! Restaurant is a favoured lunch venue and there's a musical dinner on Fridays only, and these are reviewed separately on TA.

Room Tip: No.1 - Vista is very private and has a superb location.

We stayed at one of the lakeside cottages last week and had the best time. The prices for the cottages are great, they are very comfortable, clean, well decorated. Each cottage has a balcony overlooking the vineyards and small lake and the setting was just perfect. Each stay here includes breakfast at the restaurant which was delicious and also has an amazing view.

The best part about our stay was the service. The manager was so helpful the entire time. We had a very early flight leaving capetown on the day we were to check out. We were allowed to check out early the day before and to our surprise since we weren't able to go to breakfast that day, we found they had left a bag full of breakfast goodies in our room for that day- muesli, yogurt, cereal bars, juice, apples, bananas. We had an amazing time and will definitely recommend la petite ferme!

Amazing setting with views across their lawns and vines down the valley and across the mountains. Laid back lunch but perfectly executed French style food and good value la petite ferme wines. Highly recommend a vist here

Booked Friday night, as it is live music night, which ranged from German pop, Pulp Fiction, to jazz and soul singing from Adele. All in all a very good night. Had dinner in the conservatory/terrace. Food was excellent as always, with great service.

We were unable to take up our booking as credit card payment of deposit could not be accepted by phone. Banking details were needed by insecure e mail, not a risk we were prepared to take. We were told this system was in place because La Petite Femme once lost R1000. ( £60?).

Thoroughly disappointed that our calls were not returned as promised, none the less, we had a fabulous holiday in South Africa, staying at wonderful places.

My husband and I went to La Petite Ferme for the first leg of our honeymoon. We we pointed to the lakeside cottages (not handicap accessible without a car) and we arrived to a two bedroom cottage with a mini kitchen, two full bathrooms, living room, and large porch with table and chairs. They left a nice bottle of the estate's wine in the fridge wishing us a happy honeymoon, as well as flower petals on the bed. The room is a little dated and by no means luxury, but it is rustic and very comfortable and clean. Shower also had great water pressure! Included breakfast was fabulous and filling. If you want to, you can walk into town from here; it's all downhill on the way in (obviously uphill coming back) and there's no sidewalk, but others were walking/jogging, so it wasn't a problem. Secluded and quiet.

Room Tip: Lakeside cottages are spacious and can sleep 4! Inconvenient if you mind walking about 5 minutes to...
