We had the most delightful stay earlier this month. Gelatenheid is a beautiful, spacious and comfortable cottage. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left (sadly only two nights) we felt very welcome and privileged to stay in such a beautiful guesthouse. Absolutely nothing to fault. The staff were charming and the surroundings beautiful. The Mc William Smiths are true professionals with many years in hospitality and it shows!

The breakfasts are excellent and other pluses include free laundry and free drinks then there is the outside bath in this particular cottage: great on a hot day as well as the private swimming pool and Anna the lovely house dog.

Thank you all so much.

Room Tip: Go for Gelatenheid. The most expensive but oh so comfortable

We had a wonderful time at Akademie Street. Hazel and Arthur went to great lengths to make us feel comfortable and relaxed and were fantastic with our children - even arranging a housekeeper to babysit each night so we could wander into town for dinner.
We wil defnitely be going back!

We stayed at Akadamie Street 2 years ago and such good memories of it that we had to go back.
My husband went back for the delicious scrambled eggs (with herbs) and mushrooms (with lemon and herbs) He also remembered the help given by Katherine and Hazel (Arthur was away for our first stay but gave us very good advice this time)
I went back for all of these also the lovely house, garden and wonderful bedroom with an enormous comfortable bed, the lovely thick white towels. The bedroom is equiped with everything you might want from a mobile phone, espresso coffee machine, fridge, biscuits, drinks, fruit.............
And of course Anna the dog.
We were not dissappointed, everything was just as wonderful as we remembered.

We stayed at Akademie for three nights in early March. The staff are more than helpful and the property is a delightful and well cared for oasis in close walking distance to Main Street.
The rooms we stayed in are very well appointed with extra touches not expected in a b&b. it is a little more expensive than the norm but every effort goes into ensuring that your every need is catered for. Excellent breakfasts on the terrace. Would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: We very much liked Twyfeling room

The reviews on Trip Advisor had led us to have high expectations of Akademie Street but they were wildly exceeded by what proved to be one of the favourite hotels stays we can ever recall. The elegant, effortless, seamless service we experienced comes, of course, from fanatical attention to detail but you are never aware of this. Everybody is devoted to your stay being an absolute joy and Hazel and her team do a wonderful job with delightful service which is friendly, attentive but never cloying.

The accommodations are laid out around the gardens in such a way that you enjoy total privacy and are hardly aware that others are also staying at the property. The breakfasts with their locally sourced ingredients were beautifully prepared and presented and it was hard to drag ourselves away to go out and explore Franschoek and the surrounding area. Except, of course, that Catherine and Arthur were a fountain of knowledge about everything the area has to offer and we did get to see and do so much.

We can't wait to share with others what Catherine and Arthur have created here. There is a touch of magic that enriched our enjoyment of South Africa and we can't recommend Akademie Street highly enough.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Uitsig suite which was light, roomy and spacious but I'm sure all the accommoda...

Wow. From the moment we started communicating in regards to reservations, we knew that Akademie was going to be special.

We arrived on a Wednesday having driven from Cape Town, using the clear directions that Jessie had emailed to us. We were greeted by Anna (their wonderful dog), Jessie and Arthur. There were no formalities. Just shown to our room with warmth, and shown how our first room - Vreugde works.

Vreugde is a smaller room with a huge courtyard and its own plunge pool. Our second room was Twyfeling. This was part of the main house, with a huge bedroom, a conservatory and a courtyard with a lemon, lime and guava tree.

Both rooms were very well appointed. The beds were massive and comfortable. There is an all inclusive mini bar - bottle of SA bubbles, beer, whisky/gin/brandy/Amarula, soft drinks, bottled water, as well as snacks (crisps, biscuits, decadent chocolates), and a Nespresso machine. What more could one ask for.

The bathrooms were plush with quality towels and robes, very high end toiletries, heated floor and loads of natural light.

There was always a fruit platter in the room, loads of seating area, magazines, DSTV with a plasma screen, iPod (does not work with 5) docking station and so on.

Your laundry is included, which was a huge plus point. Leave it in your bathtub in the morning, and it comes back all fresh by late afternoon.

What made the place very special were the staff. Always smiling, wanting to be of help, wanting to talk, and giving suggestions on where to go. Katherine, Jessie and Arthur recommended so many restaurants to us. Brilliant. They made the reservations for us, and we always got great tables.

Breakfast was an affair and a half. A fruit platter that is better then any 5/6/7 star hotel. So much on there, so fresh, and best of all, the fruit was ripe and sweet. Home made muesli, a juice of the day, loads of coffee, and a hot breakfast. Anything you pretty much wanted was available. We had it indoors once due to rain, in our conservatory twice due to the weather, and by the pool on the last day. Never a hurried affair, it was served at a pace you liked.

Anna - a gorgeous dog. She also made our stay special.

WiFi was included, and very fast.

Akademie is a non pretentious place that offers bespoke service, and the staff all make you feel like you are family. We are already plan future visits with friends.

Well done to everyone at Akademie for creating a haven in a heavenly village.

Room Tip: They are all brilliant. Each is so individual and has its own charm.
