“Fabulous. Accommodation and service both brilliant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

My fiancé and I stayed in Twyfeling A (the pool room) at the end of November for two nights. I can only reiterate what others have said about this fabulous guest house, the rooms are stunning with no attention to detail spared and the chilled bottle of fizz was a lovely touch.

Amazing breakfasts were accompanied by great service and conversation with Katharine, Arthur, Hazel and the team but sitting next to the pool with Anna the Labrador was also a lovely part of our stay.

Many thanks to Hazel for recommending and securing a table at Ryan's Kitchen which was a delicious birthday treat.

I can only hope we will return soon

My wife and I stayed at the Akademie Street Boutique Hotel whilst on a recent tour of the Winelands. The attention to detail throuought, the beautiful surrounds of the property , the fact that all at the hotel really do care that you enjoy your stay enables me to recommend with out hesitation. Indeed I have already advised friends to stay there when they travel later.

What a place this is. Sitting on a quiet, discrete little side street this little gem is an absolute must if you're in the area. The room was, frankly unbelieveable and the detail and effort that had gone into making a fantastic space was clearly evident (including special chocolate, with a description of how to go about tasting it to get the best from it and complimentary champers). But, if I were to pick a highlight...the breakfast. My word. Wild boar sausages, homemade granola (I don't even normally like museli), fresh fruit - even the tomatoes and mushrooms (let's be honest they're always the bit of a cooked breakfast that no-one's bothered about) were tasty as. Delicious.

This review is a little late in coming as the feeling we left Akademie Street with deserved an immediate review. From the the moment we arrived until we left everyone made it their business to ensure our stay in Franschhoek was fantastic. Thank you in paritcular to Hazel and Katherine who really did go out of their way to do whatever they could for us.

We took our nephew for his 18th birthday and stayed in Oortuiging, the two bed, two bath cottage. It's peaceful, private and, if you wanted to, you could cater for yourself (but why on earth would you when the breakfasts are so great and you're staying 2 mins walk from some of the best restaurants in South Africa). The guesthouse is a great base to explore by car or bicycle (as we did) the vineyards for a day. It's also minutes away, by car up the pass, from a days hiking Mont Rochelle (intermediate, with stunning mountain scenery).

The attention to detail is amazing and can only come from people who truly care about and love what they do. Its a great feeling being a guest here and from the moment you arrive I'm sure you'll feel it too...

We stayed at Akademie for two nights in one of the smaller cottages with its own balcony , plunge pool and garden and it was truly exquisite. The garden was completely secluded and full of jasmine which smelled heavenly in the evenings. The owners , their daughter and Hazel were all amazing and we felt very well taken care of. The only negative I can think of is that we had to eventually leave, but we will be back one day I'm sure.

As repeat guests (and we are made to feel so much more than that at Akademie Street) it always feels like coming home. My wife and I have stayed here many times over the years and always find something new and interesting on each visit. However, the main "attraction" is the welcome and hospitality. We were welcomed back by everyone as old friends/family. The staff all came up and hugged us!

This is a truly special place. We won't go anywhere else in Franschhoek! You shouldn't either.

Room Tip: The individual guest houses are a little more private than the rooms in the main house (but even tho...

The hotel is in a nice quite street a short walk from the main shopping area. we stayed in Oortuiging cottage..inside are photos of the house from when it was one of just three houses that made up Franschoek in 1900(and surrounded by sandbags during its use as a recruiting centre for British troops in Boer war!).Beautifully decorated rooms, spacious lounge ,kitchen garden and small outdoor plunge pool. Free beer, spirits soft drinks, crsips and snacks in the fully functioning kitchen. It was so nice to leave without worrying about any minbar bills! Main house was also beautifully decorated. My wife and I came away inspired from our two night stay. Breakfast was superb. We could happily have stayed there for a week.
