“Supremely Special”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2012

“I love South Africa, and I have stayed in many magical properties there — however, La Residence is the most special. Set in a 30-acre estate in charming Franschhoek, tucked into its own vineyard, this contemporary chateau will make you feel like you’re visiting royalty. Spend the late afternoon relaxing by the infinity pool, mornings & afternoons wandering the rose garden, bike rides, horseback rides, wine tasting, cheese tasting — anything and everything can be organized by the hands-on staff. A real recharge and relax kind of place that always feels supremely private.”

Like a previous reviewer I had difficulty with the title as well. This place is beautiful and is in a grand location. The food is excellent both at breakfast and at dinner. The lovely wait and room staff are great people doing a great job.

Maybe I'm just a bit picky but I thought the atmosphere was a bit stiff and actually tries a bit too hard. The other guests that we observed were also kind of standing to attention. Not really relaxing at all. Its very quiet. Certainly couldn't relax in the pool, even though the days were warm and great for swimming - the pool was freezing! Some solar heating might be a good idea.

I also thought our room was a bit of health hazard at night getting up and trying to negotiate around all the bits and pieces of furniture/object. The light switches aren't handily placed.

I think the finish for me was the fake waving goodbye as we drove down the driveway. It was a bit creepy, like out of Stepford Wives. I know it was meant to look friendly - it just looks creepy.

I know I'm out of step in not being over the moon about this place - it must just be me.

This haven of tranquility nestles in the beautiful Franschhoek valley, providing abject luxury for the traveller who requires privacy and excellent service together with casual sophistication.

This is the first review that I have changed the title 3 times: "Out of This World", "6 Stars & More" but I settled with this last one above.

My partner & I stayed in the "Marble Suite". The big windows in front of the bed opened to views of the vineyard and nature abound. Lots of original artworks in the room and they were well-appointed.

It was part of the itinerary of our S.A. trip celebrating a good friend's 50th birthday. Thanks to Heritage Tour for having picked this wonderful treat for us.

The infinity pool right outside the lobby was absolutely gorgeous. The mountain view was a feast for the eyes. Yet it was peaceful and serene.

Service was impeccable from arrival, at lunch and room service - A touch of stardom for the ordinary me! : )

What a beautiful, relaxing retreat nestled in the Franschoek Valley. From the minute we arrived we were so well looked after, no signing in just taken to our suite and from then on pure relaxation and indulgence.

Beautiful suite, wonderful view and certainly no complaints about a thing. Everything here works like clockwork, no sooner you want something it arrives whatever it may be. If in Franschoek La Residence is a must.

Room Tip: It doesn't matter they all have individual qualities

Our friends had the ultimate wedding at La Residence - the first wedding on the estate. It was by far the most magnificent, luxurious and elegant wedding I have ever been to. My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to stay at this gem for the night of the wedding and we were treated like royalty! Everything at La Residence is thought through to the smallest detail, the staff are exceptionally trained, and nothing is too much hassle for them. We stayed in the The Nomatemba Suite which was delightful and superbly designed. It was a delight to go into the room, from the massive bed, to the gorgeous library and extravagant bathroom. The views are to die for and everything is so tranquil, you feel rested after 5 minutes sitting on the balcony. The food was incredible and the pool and garden are something you can only dream of. Edward Morton the manager is truly delightful and goes beyond his duties to ensure your stay is nothing but bliss. If you are visiting Cape Town, this is an absolute must whilst exploring the winelands - nothing else compares.

Room Tip: The Nomatemba Suite is beyond gorgeous. The bright yellows and quirky style is so fun and is filled...

This was our third time at La Residence and it really is the most wonderful place. The service is some of the best I have ever experienced and the hotel is beautiful. We were shown around the new residence villas that would be great if you are two couples travelling together. The design in each room and villa is different and amazingly furnished. There is now a gym which whilst not having major machines etc is perfectly good for a little exercise if you feel the need to work off some calories! I cannot recommend La Residence highly enough- go on treat yourself it's somewhere you will remember for the rest of your life!
