“Beautiful La Cle des Montagnes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2013

Each villa exquisitely and individually decorated providing privacy and comfort with amazing views. The unobtrusive private "butler" service was delightful. Close to the unique Franschhoek village, this property is a wonderful for friends and family travelling together who want the "Villa" home from home ambience

We stayed here with our family for our wedding and hired out all 4 villas (as well as half of the village for our 100+ guests!) for 4 nights in late September. All I can say is, this is the best place I have ever stayed in! We have been around the world, stayed in 7 star hotels etc etc, but this place is simply stunning! I almost don't want to write a review so I can keep it secret, but they are so totally worthy of all the praise they can get!

Starting from Chantel and Peggy who manage the place, to all the butlers and helpers etc, each and every member of staff is a sheer delight. Nothing is too difficult, every request is met with a smile and is taken care of (we had a lot of random requests and are a very picky bunch, especially as it was a wedding) and the professionalism is really top notch. We can't say thank you enough to all the lovely people we met at La Cle for making our wedding spectacular and unforgettable. We couldn't have chosen a better place.

Each of the 4 houses is stunning in it's own way, and I really can't choose a favourite, although perhaps the Gallery house has this crazy modern style that I love! And the overall setting is truly, wondrously spectacular. Anyone who has ever been to Franschhoek will testify that the village and surrounds are incredible, and La Cle is the very best within Franschhoek. I know because we literally visited every other place when looking for the right venue.

I could go on and on, but I won't. Thank you Peggy, thank you Chantel, you are both angels and it has been delightful meeting you!! This place is simply divine, there is nothing more to it.

How do you say thank you for such a wonderful review of La Clé des Montagnes. Firstly it has the entire team beaming with pride and I think the best response was when one of the team said- "I wish their was a Trip Advisor for the guests we receive, because in this case we could reciprocate the compliments. You just do not get better!"

Just gorgeous ! We unfortunately only spent one night and regret we should have stayed more. The location is perfect - off the high street so you can take a very short walk to restaurants and shops. We stayed in the two bedroom Gallery Villa which we loved - bright and colourful and so very spacious. Private pool, amazing views, private butler, all the best appliances in the kitchen should you not want to make use of your butler and very comfortable furnishings. Breakfast is layed out for you at what ever time you want ! The host Peggy is very accommodating and friendly - nothing is a bother. Be it travelling as a couple or with friends - this is the place to stay in Franschhoek ! Seriously good. Oh - and their wines and bubbles (MCC) - simply delicious !! We cannot wait to return. Thank you for our amazing and relaxing stay.

Room Tip: You cannot stay less than two nights. Great for couples and families.

We only stayed 1 night but this was a real treat and experience. Our "villa" dated back to the 1800's and used to be a packing shed. Now it is a luxury 'self catering' country villa located in the heart of Franschhoek, literally within walking distance of all the shops along the main high street trough the centre of town. Our 'villa' had 4 rooms, each with a stunning bathroom en suite. There is a massive open plan lounge, dining room and kitchen on the ground floor with an entertainment TV room upstairs on a mezzanine level. The decor and design of La Cle des Montagne sets this property apart from anything else we have experienced. The fixtures, art work and finishes are all of the very highest quality and feature - the attention to detail is flawless. If you appreciate doings things yourself, and prefer to cook your own meals, then the kitchen is equipped with anything and everything you need to prepare a home cooked meal. The best part of the experience is you are able to buy a variety of fresh produce and ingredients all over and around town, and then take it back to your vila to prepare a meal yourself. All the villa's have their own swimming pool and private garden, so you are left in a very tranquil and quite environment, surrounded by vineyards. If you are looking for a self catering holiday that allows you to do everything yourself, yet also provides many of the personal services and facilities of a boutique hotel, then this is where you should stay. Our stay was a memorable and unique experience.

Room Tip: All the villas and accommodation are equally spectacular

We arrived on a stunning Cape Winter's day. The skies could not be bluer, the views from our terrace not more beautiful. We staid in La Galerie, two gorgeous bedrooms, the passage a real gallery with stunning pieces and then of course the most generous living, dining and kitchen area all in one. Stylishly designed and with a homely quality that makes you want to move in for a lot longer than just a weekend. Frank and his colleague John look after you in true butler style. There something to be said for having your breakfast made and your fire lit. We really enjoyed La Cle and look forward to renewing the experience.

Room Tip: The choice is between four amazing villas. All have fab views and private grounds as well as pools.

The only true villa experience in the Cape Winelands have to be those at La Cles Des Montagne, overlooking vineyards and mountains, yet within walking distance of the restaurants and shops of central Franschhoek. Superb American born GM Peggy Klement with extensive experience in Africa and her charming and genial partner Larry Gould are wonderful hosts with attentive butlers and staff who respect your privacy and exclusivity in the four individually decorated villas. each has comfortable indoor and outdoor areas and their own pools and garens, and every amenity and facility you could wish for is provided. They differ is size and range from the more contemporary to the more traditional but are beautiful. Breakfasts are on offer and along with beverages are included, and you may wish to dine in with a chef provided or do your own thing. Close too are some notable wine farms and restaurants. This is the ultimate in luxurious seclusion yet so convenient to Cape Town.

Room Tip: Le Manoir which accommodates four, has charming French styled character and for those who are disabl...

Sophisticated style and breathtaking beauty is the essence of La Clé des Montagnes.La Clé des Montagnes offers an idyllic setting a short stroll from the historic village of Franschhoek. A selection of four unique villas await you on a working wine estate, surrounded by picturesque vineyards, plum orchards with a magnificent mountain backdrop. We invite you to enjoy an unparalleled luxurious experience in the heart of the beautiful Franschhoek valley.La Grange – Sleeps 6 GuestsThis sophisticated villa’s ambience was inspired by the elegant textures, solid woods and distinct fabrics of a colonial highlands lodge. The warm palettes that make up the interior have been carefully selected to reflect the seasonal hues of the surrounding orchards and vineyards. In turn La Grange’s interiors are infused with stylistic elements reminiscent of a Victorian farmhouse – while large, plush furnishings such as deep-buttoned, rollback beds will ensure that guests will receive nothing less than a luxurious stay.Le Manoir – Sleeps 4 GuestsInspired by the French heritage of Franschhoek, the reds, blacks, greys and whites of the interior of Le Manoir engender the spirit of French linens, toiles and patterned stripes. Beautiful antiques, unexpected traditional furniture pieces and carefree colours are at the heart of Le Manoir’s charming character. Homely, yet with a modern edge, Le Manoir offers the perfect salutation to French style in a breathtaking African landscape.La Galerie – Sleeps 4 GuestsSaturated blocks of colour juxtaposed with a minimalistic interior create a powerful energy in this expressive and avant-garde villa. The deep, rich grey walls of La Galerie have been selected to make up the canvas of a beautiful contemporary art collection featuring pieces by the acclaimed Swedish artist Bengt Karl Erik Lindström. Gallery lighting highlights expressive abstracts that forge a dramatic and engaging space, while the furnishings of La Galerie comprise a marriage of sought-after antiques, as well as carefully selected, exclusive contemporary pieces. La Galerie is a fitting tribute to the rich artistic heritage of Franschhoek and the country from which its founders originated.Le Colonial – Sleeps 8 GuestsThe rich patterns and fabrics of Le Colonial pay homage to a fusion of east and north African aesthetics. Patterned fabrics, Moroccan tiles and African art lend the space a tasteful vibrancy and dynamism. Le Colonial’s panoramic views of the vineyards and mountains combine with the contemporary African feel to create a truly memorable experience. ... more   less
