“Haven away from the hustle and bustle of Franschhoek”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014

Our last four nights of our Wine buying trip to South Africa were spent at La Chataigne cottages. Our main reason for being here was to taste this years new vintages as we stock their wines here in the UK. As always the welcome here is fabulous the wine is delicious and the cottages are off the beaten track so peaceful and comfortable you have your own Braai with logs to fuel it! You need to check out their wines Richard the owner doesn't like labels so he write on every bottle himself.

Room Tip: We stayed in Kastanje perfect for 4 adults or a family and just a short walk to the pool

Great location, very nice cottage, privat, good place to stay for more than a few day's. next to small river (the franschoek river?) and with braai possibility. 10 min drive to Frranschoek pass for sundowners with nice La Chataigne wine or the home made lemonade!

"Our Farm"...that is how our children describe La Chataigne. We have just spent our 5th holiday there...and already booked our next stay. It is peaceful and quiet...the perfect spot to recharge your batteries, but also ideally located as a base from which to explore the Winelands. Cottages are fitted with all amenities...down to wine and homemade lemonade in the fridge. La Chataigne comes highly recommended.

We spent a weekend in the Kastanje cottage in Le Chataigne, and wow, what an absolutely beautiful place. The Franschoek river is only a few metres from the cottage with beautiful trees and the mountain setting the seen for a perfect view as you sit on the very private little stoep.

The cottage was beautifully decorated, had everything that you needed and a personal touch tied everything together. The wine on the farm which is available in the cottage was fantastic, and every bottle is signed by the winemaker himself. Another charming personal touch.

You won't regret booking here. It is everything that you want when visiting the winelands.

My fiance and I spent 5 days in Franschoek/Stellenbosch for wining and dining. La Chataigne is perhaps not the biggest wine farm, but the wines they produce is absolutly World Class. Suzann who guided us through their palette of wines was very knowledgeable and inspirational when she offered us to try their wines.
The wine farm is absolutely worth a visit and their wines has to be enjoyed at site.
Thx Suzann :-)

A lovely little farm. The wine was beautiful especially the Sauvignon Blanc. Lovely touch with the label signed by the owner and we were lucky enough to get a personal one. The setting was idyllic set just outside of the main part of Franchshoek amongst the mountains and the hills. Go and try it for yourself!!

We stayed in the Marron cottage on La Chataigne and would recommend it to other guests any day. The cottage is well kitted out and one can see that real attention to detail has been given to everything (e.g. lovely soft bed linen, quality kitchen appliances, really clean and fresh). Actually "fresh" sums up this quaint little cottage which has a slightly modern countryide feel to it. We stayed there with our family and our children (aged 6 and 8) loved playing under the trees, and we enjoyed knowing that they were safe and we could really relax. What also struck me was the excellent value for money, as the accommodation in the area can be very expensive. This is somewhere we will certainly be coming back to.
