“Competent food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2014

We had lunch. Upstairs with a really tremendous view. The food is competent - delicious even, but this place is huge with dozens of tables and yet there was only one other couple there. All a bit quiet....I guess that will suit some. The Holden Manz wines are lovely - particularly the rose.

“Lovely setting, excellent food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2014

In 2010, the couple Holden and Manz took over ‘Klein Genot’ in Franschhoek , renamed it ‘Holden Manz’ and renovated the buildings. The estate looks very nice, especially when you are having dinner on the verandah on the first floor and look towards the old Cape Dutch house. The atmosphere is modern and a bit impersonal although staff is friendly and welcoming. And to be honest, we feel that the original name of Klein Genot (which means: ‘little pleasure’) has much more charm to it. It was also a very wellknown brand in the winelands. The Holden Manz-wines are not so much our taste, with one exception: the Big G. Price per glass of 80 Rand is a bit too much, though. But…. here it comes: during the European winter months, an Irish Chef names Evan Jones, who lives and works in France (he has his own alpine restaurant near Annecy) is definitely worthwhile going to dinner at the Franschhoek Kitchen !! Go there before the end of April since he will be returning to France then. We can only hope he comes back next season. Then so shall we.

“Charmed evening amongst the vineyards”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2014

My fiancee and I had dinner here just after New Year's at the height of the tourist season. Our evening started by Holden Manz picking us up at our hotel and whisking us over to their vineyard and up to the restaurant terrace. The terrace is on the second floor and has incredible views of the surrounding vineyards and mountains.
The service was both knowledgable and professional without being overly stuffy. Our waiter was kind enough to take several photos of us during the meal to make sure we snapped a good pic!
My suggestion is to try the roasted hoisen duck over salad. It was unbelievable. We travelled all over South Africa for two weeks during our trip and this was the most memorable meal.

“Great dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2014

Got picked up by the hotel driver from Franschoek. Really impressive location and surroundings. Restaurant only had 6 other people in which was a shame as it was a superb setting.
The food was outstanding, although service not quite there. Staff seemed fairly new and needed a bit more training, but they were trying hard.
A thoroughly enjoyable evening.

“Fantastic setting - food variable but can't beat the location!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2014

The view from this restaurant are simply stunning. Eat on the terrace. It was hot and the bottle of Holden Manz rose was just delicious. The pork belly was just superb. And the view made for a very nice evening. There were a couple of misses in the kitchen - the caprese salad arrived without mozzarella, the fillets were cooked more than requested and the wine service a bit heavy-handed. Minor gripes though - memorable evening.
