“Interesting concept”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2013

A small rather intimate place - with the food cooked at an open style kitchen. Ryan is a talented chef (but can appear a little grumpy at times) - the food was excellent with a good choice of wines - reservations are recommended due to the size of the place

“Last night of honeymoon in Franschhoek”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013 via mobile

Had a superb last day out in franschhoek only to end with a mind blowingly finominal dinner at Ryan's. The cold and wet winters evening could not spoil this evening. From starter to desert with great wine to complement we were blown away by the incredible tastes we experienced.

I would honestly suggest any and all who venture into franschhoek to make a booking and try out some great South African cooking with a twist.

“Cuisine that will make sure you stay for hours”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013 via mobile

My wife and I had the glorious opportunity of visiting Ryan's Kitchen today (a local) for the Franschhoek Cook festival. The draw card was a demonstration by Ryan on how to make a souffle (one of those "to die for" desserts) and then a lunch. Well, many hours later we managed to leave after the most amazing lamb roti starter (like seriousy never seen before), followed by a crayfish and chicken curry with tapioca, quince, and a pepper meringue......it was simply delicious! ...and then came the guava souffle with tennis biscuit and caramel ice cream. I can testify that when these piping hot souffle's were served there was not a word to be heard in the restaurant! Just the most beautiful dessert. Ryan's Kitchen is truly a remarkable dining experience, and undoubtedly holds its place as a "must do" for anyone visiting this region.

“tiny open kitchen , innovative menu, delicious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

this tiny restaurant on the main street in Franschhoek is a gem. you are eating by a open kitchen and you are in the living room of a antique home. here there is a choice of either the chef's tasting menu or ordering off the main menu. my husband and daughter did the chef's selection with the wine pairing and i ordered off the main menu. local game is a favorite fare along with fresh seafood. the wine pairings are a good way to find some great local wines to take home. delicious. the tasting menu is a wonderful way to sample numerous flavors and fares and not going home stuffed.

“Oh, what a show!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2013

Our hotel had booked our table, and it was the best in the house, right in front of the kitchen containing Ryan, a lady chef and a sous chef. We were able to watch all the food being prepared, which was absolutely fascinating. We were surprised to receive our amuse bouche as I had thought the lady chef was preparing desserts when the "buckets" she was working on were presented to us! It was a small bucket containing onion mousse/emulsion with "soil" and flowers on top! We then both had tuna tartare, and then one of us had impala and the other beef. The food was absolutely excellent and so entertaining to see how efficient and calm the kitchen was.
We didn't really need dessert, but throughout the evening we had watched souffles being made, so shared one. A good decision as a new batch of mixture had to be made from scratch. We were then able to watch our soufle in the oven doubling in size. The souffle was creme de menthe with amarula ice cream dropped in and was so delicious and so light. Truly a most memorable meal, with good wine, and excellent service. A fabulous evening.
