“Lovely decor, food was average.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

I expected more. We love trying recommended restaurants. We had a spectacular buffet style continental breakfast spread one morning, however the lunch we had prior to that was average. I wish the focus would be more on honest and simple tastes as opposed to trying too hard to be unique.

“Worst restaurant meal of our trip.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

I am a food chaser. Of the 23 restaurants on San Pellegrino's top 100 that I have been to, this is the only restaurant that has been a failure. I even booked two nights at Le Quartier (Great Hotel) to move me up the waiting list.

Two out of 8 dishes were good, three were ok, and three were just terrible. I love modern techniques and locally sourced ingredients as much as the next foodie, but the dishes tasted disjointed. My biggest gripe was the pace! Great meals take time, but 20 minutes in between courses is really slow. Test Kitchen and Babel were much better meals.

“Surprise after surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

We had the 8-course wine pairing menu which was extraordinary.

The new decor is eegantly simple, the staff are hugely professional, fun and attentive and we loved our entire Tasting Room experience.

It is a not a cheap night out but if you enjoy creative, beautifully presented, extraordinary food then this is definately has to be on your list of restaurants to eat at

“A great experience all around!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

This was my second visit to the Tasting Room at Le Quartier Francais and the experience was great all around: food, wine, atmosphere and service. The tasting menu is a surprise 8 -course menu that is served at a good, slow pace that leaves plenty of time to enjoy the whole experience. The dishes were not too large so that you never felt full and could keep on going. There was a lot of use of local products and spices unique to South Africa. The service was very friendly yet professional.
