Franschhoek seems to be the San Sebastián of South Africa and surely The Tasting Room and its award winning chef must take much if the credit for that. The surprise menu (we have eaten too well in this country so only went for 5 and not 8 courses), was incredible. From the cashew nut and olive marshmallow and squid ink stone as part of the amuse vouches, through to the hartebeest loin, the gruyere of the cheese course and then the biggest surprise of all the dessert. Won't spoil it for you by describing what happens but it was all full of imagination and the most incredible array of flavours.

Probably the best meal we've had outside San Sebastián and in many ways as enjoyable as the great Mugaritz. But not quite Arzak!

“Well worth it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Dinner here surpassed any other fine dining I have experienced. My husband has wanted to eat here for a few years and I have always been hesitant as I have dietary restrictions. This was no problem, and we were presented with alternatives as and when necessary. We loved that we were given different options as we were able to enjoy more tastes. The staff were fantastic, knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. The food was presented as art on a plate and the flavours of each and every course lived up to the presentation. A fabulous evening we will always remember!

“The Most Amazing Dinner Yet.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

My wife and I are both foodies and we visited South Africa and Paris for our honeymoon. We had the tasting menu with the wine pairing and it was the most amazing meal we have ever had in our life so far. The chef signed a copy of our menu for us. The restaurant might seem to be a bit small, however, it's perfect the perfect size for a perfect meal.

“A stand out - must eat here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2013

This was the standout restaurant of our stay in Africa, in our opinion topping La Colombe. We both had the surprise tasting menu with matched wines, one of us having 5 and the other having 8 courses but that was no issue and balanced perfectly by the very competent staff. A very innovative menu which was simply delicious without being overdone. Great explanations of the food and top service from all staff. If are visiting Franschoek it would be highly advisable to make an advance booking to ensure you are not disappointed. We loved it.
