“A lovely stay with lovely hosts”

My husband and I spend a weekend at the Garden House for our first anniversary, and our stay couldn't have been better. The Garden cottage is a quaint, relaxing and completely renovated - the perfect spot for a couple. I doubt you can get a better accomodation in Franschhoek for such an affordable price. The hosts, Annette and Barry, couldn't have been more friendly. They made restaurant reservations for us, gave us tips on where to go and what to do, and all of their recommendations were spot on. We will definitely be back to the Garden House on our next trip out to Franschhoek.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights of our honeymoon and wished it had been a longer stay. Annette and Barry go above and beyond as hosts and made us feel so welcome. Our room was great, very clean, nice decore and amazing bathroom. Breakfast, snacks and drinks provided were so nice. Their advice on wineries and restaurants were so helpful and their location is perfect. We hope to return again one day and would recommend The Garden House to anyone visiting Franschhoek.

A last minute weekend away from Cape Town took us to the delightful appropriately named Garden House in Franshhoek, situated in the heart of the Cape Winelands. We were greeted by the warm hospitality of hosts Annette and Barry to a truly home from home where guests become part of the family not forgetting the doe-eyed gentle Benji the dog. We stayed in the Cottage, which has everything you need, tasteful decor and very comfortably furnished. Vigorously active Annette, and Barry are both super friendly, interesting, entertaining and real people who provided us with array of interesting discussions over drinks in their charming home and dinner. We explored their garden the next morning with its thrilling views over the valley and felt so warm about our visit that we will not want to stay anywhere else when we next go to Franshhoek. and will be delighted to recommend it to friends and relations. Make sure you sample Annette's delicious homemade muesli and her breakfasts during the summer are legendary. We left relaxed and recharged with a huge hug, and the feeling that we had made friends. We truly recommend it to friends and relations and don't forget to say hello to Napoleon, a special kind of cat and his captive!

Room Tip: We loved the peacefulness of the Cottage, just outside the main house.

We couldn't stay with Annette and Barry as they were fully booked but they sorted out an apartment in the town which was beautiful. We had access to their pool, daily breakfast which was scrummy, and they even went as far as to give us a lift to the wedding we were visiting for! We even had a massage and a horse trek arranged for us in advance. Was like a home away from home!

My husband and I spent two nights at the Garden House and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were greeted warmly by Annette and met Barry shortly afterwards. They were both warm, friendly, and full of personalized advice and suggestions for restaurants, wine tours, and shopping in Franschhoek. The Garden House room is large and spacious, with every amenity of a modern boutique hotel and a cozy, beautiful decor. We used the complimentary bicycles available to all guests, and Barry provided us with maps and a route to see some of the beautiful surroundings and vineyards. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Garden House. I hope to return and definitely recommend this guest house to anyone passing through Franschhoek!

We stayed at the Garden House as part of our honeymoon from 21st-23rd May. We tend to prefer smaller more personal places to large hotels and I’m pleased to say they don’t come anymore personal than the Garden House. We arrived pretty early from Cape Town not expecting to be able to check in but were greeted by Annette with our room ready for us. Admittedly Annette had been trying to get in touch with me to confirm our arrival time but I wasn’t picking up my emails.

The House sits in some lovely well maintained grounds, we stayed in the cottage which sits across a courtyard from the main house. The room is HUGE! It was so nice to be able to ‘spread out’ after struggling for space in our previous guest house. The Bathroom is equally impressive, with a heated floor, it was bigger than the bedrooms we had in most of the other places we stayed. The fridge is well stocked with beer, wine, soft drinks etc all of which are complementary and if you run out you only have to asked and it will be re-stocked. Part of the experience is for Annette and Barry to invite you for a drink with them in the evening, if it’s warm out of the veranda overlooking the garden if not inside in their living room. We really enjoyed talking with Annette and Barry and showing them our wedding photos. After a drink Annette very kindly gave us a lift down to the restaurant she had recommended for us even coming in to make sure we got a good table and were ‘looked after’. The house is very well located, around a 10 minute gentle walk to the main street.

We’d pre-booked a winelands tour the following day, and I was feeling a bit under the weather so Annette packed me off with some remedies and big bottle of orange juice. Regretfully we had to leave very early the next morning to make it to Gansbaai for a shark cage dive. I think we could happily spend weeks on end in the Garden House, enjoying the grounds, the wine and the many fine restaurants, and of course Annette and Barry’s company not forgetting Benji the dog!

If only there were a Garden House in everyplace we stayed, as it was certainly one of the highlights of our trips and only negative was having to leave. Anyone looking to stay in Franschhoek should consider the Garden House that is unless you prefer big hotels with impersonal service. Annette and Barry are minds of information about the local area and will help you make the most of your stay. This is one of a few places we have stayed around the world which we could happily say there is something special about it.

We’d really like to return someday in the not too distant future and would toughly recommend the Garden House to anyone considering staying there.

We spent two nights at the Garden House; it was one of the best run b&bs that we have experienced. Annette and Barry have a passion for making their guests make the most of their time in Franschoek. Their restaurant recommendations were tops. In addition, they gave us some winery tips that helped us narrow down which locations we visited. As the Garden House is within walking distance to down town (about 10 mins.), you are centrally located for any of the day's activities. We were even offered bikes; we would have used them but it was raining a bit during our stay.

We stayed in the cottage behind the main house. The room was well appointed with refreshments and great books / local guides to read. The room was exceptionally maintained, and has a large bathroom. Breakfast was enjoyed on the porch, which overlooks the garden. Nicky, the housekeeper, definitely prides himself on making a great breakfast.

When traveling, especially in a place like Franschhoek, we typically look for the best value (not the cheapest or most luxurious). I don't think there is a better value in town. The expert advice, wonderful accommodation, location and breakfast makes the Garden House a top pick.
