Thank you for the positive comments. We are currently striving to make this a truly great establishment offering excellent service and great value for money and making every guest feel valued. I am please to say that also with the recent re-grassing of the pool and the arrival now of the new pool loungers, that your next visit will be an even more memorable one. I appreciate your review. Kind regards James

We've just enjoyed a 2 night stay here. Excellent location to enjoy the area, ideal for local high street access, but tucked away from any noise. Very peaceful gardens with comfortable rooms. I was reading some critical comments from earlier in 2011, but after meeting the (returning) new owner James, I'm confident Maison Chablis in in good hands. James was an excellent host, very positive and helpful with all our requests. Overall a great stay and we'll return again.

Thank you for the positive comments. There are going to be some great changes happening at Maison Chablis and every bit of feedback , positive and negative, will assist us in improving our standard and acknowledging where we have improved, so thank you for the encouragment. I am pleased to say that since I have taken over as Owner/manager, I have only had good comments which is a combined result of my fantastic staff and the desire by everyone here to make our establishment one of the best value for money locations you can find in Franschhoek. Kind regards . James

We stayed for 3 nights whilst exploring the winelands.
The guest house is located quite centrally for wandering the centre of Franschhoek and it's plentiful restaurants.
Our room was on the ground floor and had a little courtyard area with table and chairs.
The breakfasts are good with fruits, cereals, breads and cooked option.
We very much enjoyed our stay here.
Lauren was very helpful, providing us with a breakfast bag for our early morning adventure.
The pool was a nice area to sit and catch the last sun after the day winetasting.

This was our 5th stay at Maison Chablis but unfortunately it will be our last. It is in a superb position, very close to restaurants and shops and the place has the potential to be superb. It changed hands about 2 years ago and the new owners do not appear to have kept up with the maintenance. The rooms are beginning to look tired and in need of decoration. Sharon who was the manager up to last year has now retired and I'm afraid the standard of cleanliness is not as good as before. Lauren the new manager is very helpful and friendly. The owners I have never seen. We are now looking for somewhere else to stay in Franschhoek. What a pity we loved Maison Chablis.

Hi, I am sorry to hear about your experience at Maison Chablis. I am a new owner at the Guest House effective 1 September. There are a lot of very positive changes that we will be implementing. A maintenance programme is now in place with a fulltime garden service. A policy has been set to maintain the rooms at a very high standard. Prices have been set at a more market related price, breakfast range has been upgraded and we believe that the value for money at Maison Chablis will surpass many other similar guest houses in Franschhoek. Wifi will now be offered free of charge to guests and we are also looking at implenting a small business setup in reception for guests who wish to continue business with free internet and printing/fax capabilities. We hope you will give us another opportunity.
Warm regards
James (Owner)

Maison Chablis is a beautiful guest house, just off the main street in Franschhoek, where you'll find all the main shops, bars and restaurants. This was the second stop on our honeymoon and found the service fantastic and the rooms clean and comfortable (Rm5). Lauren was very helpful and we had a great day out wine tasting, taking in Stellenbosch and Paarl - Franschhoek is a good central point for this. We ate at Le Petite Ferme just up the road on the Franschooek Pass, which we'd highly recommend too. We would book again!

Compared with the other B&Bs in which we have stayed in SA, which have mostly been absolutely superb, this came across as very average. A good location, attractive garden (but tiny pool which invariably had its "cleaner" draped across) & comfotable beds are the plusses, but our welcome when arriving an hour early (1pm) was disappointing - in effect "go off & have lunch & come back later!"
After that the Manageress adopted a fixed stereotyped insincere grin for the rest of our stay & seemed a little put out that we expected the light bulbs in our bathroom replaced (only 1 of 3 was working). She never really seemed to want to put herself out or be particualrly helpful, but just shut herself away in her little office.
Overall the electrical wiring did not seem to be up to standard with inadequate sockets (eg. no shaver socket in bathroom) & the one important one in the bedroom that we did try to use for recharging kept falling out of the wall (filing fixings). However by way of contrast the bedside lamps were amonst the best & brightest we have found at any hotel or guest house.
Neverheless the overall impression of our room (Rm6) was that it had not been modernised enough at the recent refurb. The layout of the old building was not ideal for a modern guest house & our only access & that for service staff was up an external staircase & through the breakfast room. Having this in mind we thought it was overpriced!
The breakfast was quite adequate & the African waiting staff charming.
Unlike most establishents which offer free WiFi access, this one charges via an external provider - however it's payment site into which I tried to give my credit card details seemed to have a glitch - so I was never able to log on with my i -phone, which has worked perfectly everywhere else.

Hi, I am a new owner here since 1 September. I previously owned it 2 years ago. I have been amazed how terrible the manager here had run it for the 2 years since. That being said, I have itemised an extensive list of issues that require urgent attention. On the list of things to include doing are re-grassing of the pool area, servicing airconditioning units, re-painting the bedrooms, front door mats replaced, introducing free WiFi, having a business section in reception with printer/fax facilties for guests at no extra charge, expanding our breakfast range, etc etc, and reducing a rates to be more competitive, ie greater value for money for our valued guests. It will now be owner run to have the best interests of the guests at heart, so I assure you that you will not have a repeated experience like you had. That being said, I apologise sincerely for your experience with previous ownership and management and I hope that you will give Maison Chablis another chance with me at the helm.
Warm regards
James
