The self catering chalets are well appointed and spacious with comfortable beds. We found the staff friendly and helpful - it seems the KZN/Ezemvelo staff are well chosen for being friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast included was good, not outstanding, and the evening buffet we did not regard as good value. However the overall experience was very good - we would recommend self-catering. There are some excellent walks, and the San paintings are a must.

Six of us stayed in the Red Hot Poker chalet in September 2013. We loved it. The views were breathtaking, the hiking wonderful, and the Bushman paintings amazing. We saw baboons, dassies and eland while hiking. Our meals were all self catered, so we only had tea at the restaurant, but it was quite nice. The chalet was comfortable and had everything we needed for cooking and sleeping. Definitely worth staying in the park.

My husband and I stayed in the honeymoon suite at Giants Castle Camp for two days. It was the best decision we made! The road to Giants Castle is not fanastic at all and we were quite put-off by it. The potholes are terrible and it will be better if it was a gravel road but once we got to the camp we forgot all about it! It was worth it! The reception was warm and friendly and we loved our chalet tucked away with a mountain/river view. It was cosy, comfortable and clean. The bed was awesome and our fireplace in the room was fantastic as it got a little bit cold at night still. The weather otherwise was great. The only thing we can recommend is that the smaller trees in front of the porch be trimmed so that it does not obstruct the view to the left of the mountain. We are not avid hikers but we were hooked! The scenery and landscape surrounding us beckoned and we could not resist! We walked from morning till late afternoon. The walk to the caves of the San people was fabulous and the walk back next to the river topped it all off! We were disappointed that we only stayed for two days and will definately be back again and again!! LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT!!! I am now a 'BERG' fanatic!!

This resort has lovely views, the main executive suite is huge and easily sleeps 12. The staff were very pleasant and even arranged that we go see the vulture hide at short notice. The fireplace is lovely and wood should be bought or brought with. 3 bags will last one full night. The food is fair, breakfast being very good value for money. the restaurant does not serve lunch menu (burgers) at night.

This place gets you into the heart of the berg. Great scenery and good walks. The rooms are ok but attention to detail is lacking at times. There is a restuarant but we did not use it. The kitchen in the room had all we needed for our stay. If you are not into camping in winter in the berg then this is a good option.

We stayed here in May 2013 and couldn't believe we had the place almost to ourselves. Chalet 39 has amazing views of the mountains where you watch the sun rise over breakfast on the covered deck. The restaurant is definitely a good choice for dinner with good options considering you are in a national park. The chalet decor has a bit of a dated 80's look but it was clean, and again, the views and location right next to the hiking trails can't be beat. The caves are an easy excursion and it is worth it to go beyond and hike a bit farther into the mountains. We didn't see anyone the entire afternoon with the exception of a few baboons and eland by the river. Baboons in such a dry mountainous environment were cool to see. Make sure to spend at least a couple nights here - it's a bit of a trek to get to but worth it.

Room Tip: Ask for chalet 39 if possible for the best views and privacy

The crisp mountain air and heavenly scenery just encourages you to have an incredible experience. I travelled with a Spanish honeymoon couple who were so happy with choosing to visit the camp. Chalets are well-equipped and in good condition with all you need for self-catering. A great addition to the camp is the little room with TV's showing camera images of the vulture restaurant. We were fascinated by the images of vultures and crows wheeling and landing around a carcass that had been left in the open.
Walks are wonderful (we did Main Cave San paintings and Bergview) and well-marked. Keep your eyes open and you will be surprised by sightings of eland and reedbuck amongst other creatures.
Our only small negative was the attitude and bad service of the staff in the restaurant. Food was really not bad at all but the staff hardly acknowledged us and seemed really unhappy about something, almost bordering on surly. There was a little misunderstanding about whether we were booked on B&B and on the second night the restaurant supervisor was quite adamant that we pay for breakfast! This was a misunderstanding but was quite unpleasant as she became quite strident! Very unpleasant experience. And it was repeated a couple of times.
Reception staff very helpful. Also, on one of our walks we noticed some horses that were grazing on the grounds and these were in terrible condition. Extremely thin and malnourished. If horses are to be kept, they need to be cared for. A case for the SPCA to investigate.
Still, all in all a wonderful and invigorating visit with beautiful snow dusted mountains.

Room Tip: Try and book a chalet with a mountain view and not garden view. Garden view chalets lack a little in...
