“Funky Town: Exceptional Personal Service: Port Elizabeth Airport: AVOID!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

The staff at Funky Town went above and beyond to insure that a large group of American athletes had a wonderful stay in Jeffrey's Bay. Not only did they attend to all our needs - but they went way beyond the extra 100 miles - by picking us up from where ever we needed to be picked up - literally. I cannot say enough good things about the highly personalized service, the care and concern, and the willingness to insure that everybody had an absolutely unforgettable adventure. They even tried to assist us when Port Elizabeth Airport turned into an absolute nightmare for some of our athletes returning home to the U.S. They made phone calls on our behalf and moved mountains where Port Elizabeth Airport dropped the ball, didn't care, and cost 4 of our group an extensive amount of extra money to get home. Speak to Tayrene Cooke at Funky Town to avoid the pitfalls that we fell into at Port Elizabeth Airport. She could run that airport better than the idiots there.

I really didn't enjoy my stay at FunkyTown, firstly it is the first accommodation i've ever stayed in that didn't even have a TV. The finishes are very nice but there is a serious lack of parking inside so your car is safe and when i was there the other people staying there were extremely loud and there was a serious lack of privacy as people and kids walk past your room and look in.

The staff are friendly and always willing to go above and beyond to improve your stay. The accommodation is really good value for money and the penthouse suite is absolutely amazing. The decor is truly "Funky" and the Jacuzzi was an added benefit. The location is close to anything you could need and is walking distance to the beach and restaurants. A truly pleasant and relaxing experience, I have been there a few times and will continue to go back.

Room Tip: Pay extra and stay in the Penthouse suite.

My husband and I stayed at Funky Town for 3 nights, it was a business and pleasure trip combined. We had a lovely King Bed with an exceptionally modern, clean room and bathroom.
Tayrene and Deborah were so helpful, they made staying there a pleasure.
Being winter it would have been better to have had a heater in the room. Another plus would be to have TV in the room.
We would recommend staying here, and returning sometime.

Room Tip: We had a full bathroom and King Bed, nice and spacious.

Was most impressed on arrival, greeted by very friendly receptionist. Very upmarket I would say! What impressed us the most, our baggage was taken for us on arrival and departure, never experienced that at any other B & B throughout our travels. Would defiantly recommend FunkyTown to our family and friends. That's the place to be!

This review is long overdue. On this first night, my friends and I were so taken aback by this awesome gem that I was adamant about writing a review as soon as I got back to Cape Town..

Upon arrival, we were greeted with open arms and so sincerely by the ever so wonderful Tayrene.. If only every manager of every self catering accommodation was this hospitable! Besides being welcomed with such wonderful service, the accommodation itself is absolutely stunning: a large back garden (large enough to put up a volleyball net!), plunge pool, Jacuzzi and braai area.
Detailing in every room is so unique and gorgeous, and really reminds you you're on a relaxing holiday in a surfers town. My 6 friends and I booked out the penthouse plus another double bedroom, and everything from the artwork, to cutlery and crockery, to the way the bed was set out, was all so perfect and inviting.
We had the most amazing 3 nights at Funky Town - you won't want to leave!

Thanks again, Tayrene (she really is an absolute star!).

I had spent the day looking for a convenient place to stay while on our way to a safari resort. Most hotels were full, expensive, or seedy looking, so we were very pleasantly surprised by Funkytown. We were given a tour of the gorgeous place by the friendly staff. She even made a restaurant reservation for us where we had a delicious dinner. Then we sat outside around the fire pit and had a glass of wine. We were traveling with my son and his wife, and our two rooms were beautifully decorated, very clean, and the bed was comfortable with very high quality bedding.. The bathrooms were works of art, with walk in showers and one even had a soaking tub. This is indeed a flash-packer and not a backpacker place, but I would say it is more like a 4 star hotel. I wish we could have stayed more than one night....

Inspector Tom's review: hotel appearance, truly funky, with very cool art on various walls done by a very talented local artist. Most anyone young and old will appreciate the art. The proprietors were extremely nice. It was appearent they were making every effort to please, and they did. The accommodations were clean, comfortable and everything was functional. There were no insects or other critters. A modern open kitchen was available to all. We had a great breakfast very close by. The location is almost in a neighborhood, several blocks from the town center and the ocean. A car is not eccential but highly recommended.
This is not a super deluxe mega chain hotel, but a small good quality "Funky" hotel at the right price. I was suprised and not dissapointed in any respect.
