“Great for a short stay at the Jersey Shore.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

Conveniently located 1 block from the beach. Basic amenities included, with a few extras. Clean, neat and friendly. Close to Wildwood and Cape May.
Very homey feeling. We've been going there for years. It's our #1 choice.

Yes, the place is clean, but it has deteriorated in almost every other aspect over the years. Having frequented the Imperial for over a decade, being a 3rd generation family whose elder is a 90 year old gentleman, we were shocked this year when we were told that the 5+ rooms we have regularly reserved, were not available …. without any explanation. Having secured new reservations at another hotel on the Crest, we found that the Imperial did us a favor. While we treated the owners with respect and kindness, we thought we were being treated likewise. It was all a sham. Through the years we’ve come to recognize that the parents (Ann & Joe) rule with iron fists (more rules than you can imagine ~ don’t walk on their grass), their daughter (Jackie) has little to no business sense, and her husband doesn’t want to be there (Jim’s a contractor that wants to ride bikes), so he’s relegated to doing pool boy chores. On many occasions mom and daughter bungled our reservations and we graciously had to wait while they “worked through it” ~ and though it’s obvious that they put money back into the motel, it’s at the guests’ expense in the end. There’s so many rooms on the property now (they added 1.5 stories to the original 2 story motel, and also rent rooms in their main dwelling) that many times you can’t find a parking spot (there’s constant announcements that “cars without permission tags will be towed”), and the saltwater pool (not refreshing) has occupants sidled shoulder to shoulder (it’s like the Caddyshack pool). Children are constantly dived upon by older quests. The beds are absolutely uncomfortable (way too soft, feeling every spring), taking you most of the week to get used to them. The refrigerator doors have shelf bars that constantly fall off, so don’t put glass on the door (we learned the hard way)! The AC unit doesn’t adequately cool the front room until late in the evening. We’ve regularly found that some downstairs units by the pool constantly have little ants in the cupboard, and some of the units also have an underlying moldy, mildew smell, indicating their carpeting likely needs replacing. Also, be aware that the position of the hotel gives you no place to sit comfortably in the morning when the sun is beating on you (so enjoy your coffee hunkered in your room), and by 2PM, half the pool area is in the shade, so plan on getting your tan at the beach or on the deck. And while there’s rules about not hanging towels on railings, don’t be surprised that there’s no rule about saving lounge chairs. Guests put towels on chairs to “reserve” them by 8AM (thrown over the locked gated pool area (pool doesn’t open until 9:30), then seldom are seen until later in the day. Then, the pool shuts down 7PM sharp, leaving you sit around looking at it ~ even though the owners live on premises (and no ball throwing in the pool, it’s a rule). While the rooms are smoke-free, the remainder of the property allows smoking, so families with kids be aware. And many of the guests and an owner are cigar smokers ~ the smoke wafts relentlessly into downstairs rooms. There’s also little hidden fees, like $10 for every key secured, $1 for each washer/dryer use, $1 for the kids to play pool, quarter for the kids to ride the little arcade merry go round, a fee for their courtesy coffee machine, a quarter to view the ocean through the deck binoculars, etc. (I’m surprised Wi-Fi is free still!) It’s sad that they can’t interact professionally, and have a difficult time managing bookings (…note that reservations are maintained on a poster board, so it’s clear why the motel has that retro-50’s feel, since the owners have no desire to enter the 21st century either…)! Were we bitter? Sure. Now? Not! (Having found a better motel!) Are we telling the truth? Yes. Entirely! Renter beware…

Wow! How to respond to this one. I guess I can start with read our reviews! Lots of happy customers. This particular family has been staying with us for generations as they stated 3 was it? If they were so un happy and had so many issues why did they keep coming back? Year after year. This is truly a case of anger. There family grew to big for us to be able to accommodate them with as many rooms as they requested. They sent there request for reservations in later than usual and at that time we did not have all of the rooms that they needed. To go to this length and write a mouth full of nothing but lies and un-truths, is just ludicrous to me. But it says a lot about this family. If they were so angry to go to this extent they must have really wanted to come back. As for slandering each family member of the imperial 500 is taking it a bit far. We were nothing but nice to them over the years as we are with all of our customers, and don’t deserve that over not having vacancy for them. I can say this we are the lucky ones that you are now happy some place else. As far as saying Jackie has little to no business sense…… The smartest business decision was not taking your family back. You can slander us with your lies and anger but our true customers know the truth. We cater to all our customers as if they were family. If you are vacationing in the wildwoods feel free to stop by and see us for yourself. Thank you management of the Imperial 500 motel

We couldn't have been happier at this Motel! The motel was extremely clean, the staff was so approachable, friendly and courteous, and always looking to help you. The owners were so sweet to us and made us feel so welcome. My son loved playing in the pool with their adorable daughter. Even the atmosphere was great and the other customers staying at the hotel were friendly - everybody greeting everybody else - it was truly a great experience. The location is basically right on the beach. You can take a trolly bus to the boardwalk, so you don't have to worry about parking. We will be coming back every Summer from now on!!

This hotel is clean, the owners take pride in maintaining it and making sure all the guest are happy. The lady at the front desk was nice and so was the daughter and husband. They were both seen in the property doing something around the hotel to ensure all was in order. They have shower heads by the pool area to rinse off the sand from the beach which someone comes right behind you to rinse the floor for the next person. The pool is big with a diving board which the kids absolutely loved. One day my parents wanted decaf tea which they did not have at the vending machine. The owner gave me 4 bags of tea for the last two days. I agree with a previous review, my only suggestion would be for the beds to be a little more comfortable.

Can't say enough great things about the little place we stood in Wildwood. Quaint, SUPER DUPER Friendly, and ULTRA CLEAN. Our family has a child with special needs, and the staff bent over backwards to accommodate my family. The place has that 60'5 style that every motel in Wildwood has, but it is maintained by the family who owns it with real care. They actually found our iPhone and returned it to us, and never even called, asked, or contacted us. Just did it. That's service. Imperial 500, Wildwood, NJ Thank you! After speaking to some of the other guest there who keep coming back year after year, I can honestly say... Cant wait to see you folks, next year.

There isn't enough space to share how great this family owned motel truly is. We were a last minute booking that was accommodated as though they had known us for years. We wanted to stay 4 nights but were only able to get 3 nights (July 1st- 3rd) since the motel had been booked solid for months. The owner promised she would keep her eyes open to help us get that extra night we needed. Upon check-in our room was ready (well before our 2pm check-in time) It was clean with an updated kitchen and had everything needed to make you feel at home. The family can be seen 24/7 whether it's in the office, cleaning by the pool or just walking around making everyone there feel like they are visiting a friend's home. The day we were to check out the owner and her husband were both on their personal cell phones desperately trying to find us a room at a near by motel for July 4th night but to no avail. While we were packing our car to go home the owner came running out to us, they had a cancellation here at the Imperial 500. We were so happy, not just for getting able to stay an extra night in this great motel but the genuine concern of the owners trying to accommodate us spoke volumes to us. She was just as excited as my family was. I would not only recommend this motel, I will tell anyone they are above and beyond excellence. Can't wait to return in September......
