“Decent Motel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

We have stayed at Tangiers two years in a row. This year we stayed August 2nd-6th, and last year, August 3rd-6th. For a basic double queen bed room, it cost us $150 per night. This motel is the second hotel in from the beach and boasts nice ocean views. It is located about a block away from the beginning of the boardwalk. Tangiers seems to be a sure bet as far as knowing what we're getting.

The positives: Nice location, quick walk to boardwalk, Primo Hoagies, and Tony Lukes. Very pretty ocean views that are mostly unobstructed if you are on the third floor. The grounds and pool area are relatively clean and well kept.

The negatives: When we stayed in 2012, the room seemed much cleaner than it was this year. It didn't appear the room was vacuumed or windexed prior to our arrival. They did not change the sheets during our stay, only remaking the bed with the same used linens. As with most motels along the shore, the bathrooms are very outdated. The toilet did not work that well - having to hold down the handle during the entire lengthy flush process.

Overall, Tangiers is a reliable motel for a fair price.

Room Tip: Request a third floor room for better ocean views.

Owners are very Nice & friendly, which is why I booked a stay here without looking @ the place first. Checking in as a family of 5.....3 of which are teenagers, make it really hard to be comfortable in the room. Those pictures the Tangiers put up are False Advertisement to say the least!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very Unhappy ;-(

The hotel from the outside is very nice, ping pong table, shuffle board and chest set on deck all nice features for the kids when they get bored. The pool they say is heated but felt cold to me everytime I went in I know some hotels turn the temp down on the heated pools during the day so that may have been the case. The pool closes at 7 so I dont know if it would be warmer at night. We didnt try the Doo Wop Cafe but it was crowed every morning so I guess they have good food. The location of the motel is great, right across the street from the beach bike rentals, small playground and basketball court 3 blocks away. 10 blocks to the begining of the boardwalk. Only con I see to the location is the hotels across the street CAPE COD INN and THE FLEUR DE LIS some of the people in those hotels are loud at all hours of the night.
Ok now on to the room itself. We stayed in a standard room it was a good size room for 4 people ive stayed in smaller rooms before at other hotels so this was a plus for us and also clean. There was definitley a musty smell, I know we are right off the beach and its to be expected but I packed air freshener so it wasnt to bad and had the door open most of the time to air out the room. The bathroom is dated but very clean. Tv is 19 or 20 inch tube tv, kids didnt care they still watched their cartoons in the morning. There wasnt enough outlets to charge your cell or laptop or camera had to unplug the lamp to charge one thing at a time. We had no problem with the beds being to firm, no one woke up with a sore back so thats plus.
The a.c worked but didnt use it to much because I think it made the musty smell worse at times.

This place is not terrible but i would NEVER stay here again or recommend it to someone. Its SUPER tiny, so much so that it looks like dwarfs live here. It smells very musty but not unbearable. The beds are very very hard i had trouble falling asleep. Theres no trying to talk this place up because its an average run hotel/motel with average rates for average to below average rooms. So i conclude that it would be in you best interest to find a better place to stay in Wildwood. Unless of course you are a dwarf and like the smell of mustiness then by all means, knock yourself out!

Great location at the Shore and you are appropriately paying for geography. Motel is clean but aged and getting run down. Employees are pleasant and attentive. Beds are firm and comfortable for me. Again the key factor is the half block walk to the Wildwood Crest Beach. If you have been a Jersey Shore vacationer this place will be exactly what you were expecting and you will be quite satisfied. If you are new to the Jersey Shore understand that allot of what Wildwood Crest is about is tradition and family vacations from the past and don't expect and new place with lots of amenities. Interestingly one of the key benefits of this hotel is that it faces North and is quite protected from the afternoon sun making for pleasant environment.

We spent this past weekend in Wildwood and stayed at Tangiers. We stayed in one of the smallest rooms - one double bed with a TV, microwave/mini fridge, table, and a bathroom. It was the perfect size for two people, though (plenty of room to walk around the room, though the bathroom is a tight squeeze). The hotel is between Atlantic and Ocean, so it has a great ocean view and is a very short walk to the beach. It's walkable to the boardwalk - but it's a long walk to get to the water parks/Mariner's Landing (half an hour walk). The trolley goes by the hotel on Ocean, though, so that's a good option, too. Service is great. The family that owns the hotel is very friendly and do their best to make your stay great. We didn't get to go in the pool this year but it looks good. The new chairs and shuffleboard and giant chess set looked good.

The only downsides is that the bed is very firm so we didn't get the greatest nights' sleep and the AC wasn't very efficient. Like other reviewers have said, yes it's somewhat old and the rooms may be small, but it's Wildwood and this is a neat Doo Wop hotel. Enjoyed our stay here and are hoping to stay here again next summer!

I made a reservation at the Tangiers in July for 2 days in August. Most places in Wildwood require a 3-night stay. We could only stay for 2 nights this trip. Arlene was accommodating and gave us a good deal on 2 adjoining rooms for our family of 6. Yes, the rooms are small. But it's Wildwood and not the 4 Seasons on a tropical island! The rooms were clean, that is important. My only complaint is no tissues or hair dryer (glad I brought my own)! The pool area and sun deck are so nice and new. Doo Wop Coffee Shop was excellent food. We ate breakfast and lunch there. Generous portions- I split everything with my 10 year old daughter! I would stay here again!
