We visited both Wildwood and Water's Edge for the first time June 9-13, 2008. Selected this property based on closeness to Boardwalk, reviews from TripAdvisor, and availability of oceanfront rooms. We would definitely return!! This was a great time to visit - not crowded yet as the New Jersey kids were still in school...meant that rates were not too high. Trade-off was that some things on Boardwalk weren't fully open but having open space on the beach was 100% worth it!
Our room was a "D-type" oceanfront unit. Originally wanted the "E" units (newer) until we learned from talking to Valerie, the owner, that these new units were "oceanview" and not "oceanfront." Since we definitely wanted "OCEANFRONT" we specifically requested a "D-type" unit that was not directly over the pool, and were VERY pleased. We had four people staying in the unit but felt that it could accomodate a larger family.
The unit was quite roomy, with one larger bedroom (which had its own oceanfront balcony) and a smaller bedroom. Each room had two beds - I think they were advertised as queens but I think they were full-size beds. The larger bedroom had a small round table with two chairs, and also desk with chair. (We ended up moving one chair to the living room for more seating). Each bedroom had an open-front wardrobe to hang clothes (some hangers provided, may wish to bring more), dresser drawers, nightstand, and its own television.
The two bathrooms were basic but functional, and we certainly appreciated having two full baths. The other room was a kitchen/living room combined which opened onto the second oceanfron balcony. There was a small couch, television, desk and chair, and dining table/chairs. *NOTE - when we arrived, our refrigerator had been "turned off and defrosted" - it took 24 hours to cool down...we had stopped to buy a few staples and ended up going out to get some ice + put some things in the freezer overnight. It did cool down by the next day and worked fine from that point.
Daily housekeeping was a plus...they did come by fairly early and you either had to take them when they came or sign off that you didn't want service that day. Our rooms were cleaner here than when we stayed at Walt Disney World's Caribbean Beach Resort last year!
Everything was very convenient to Water's Edge..Boardwalk is much closer than "two blocks" (it's really just two other hotels away). Make sure that you get pictures at the big WILDWOOD sign!! (on Boardwalk near Convention Center) Sunset Beach & Cape May Lighthouse were worth a road trip also...front desk personnel were very helpful in trying to help us determine hours for the mini-golf course at Sunset Beach (looked up number online, made phone call, etc).
Our only issues at Water's Edge: Washing machine...washed one load of clothes and they ended up covered in rust spots. Management gave us quarters back to rewash clothes and said that sometimes they had "problems with the water." (I wasn't chancing it again...OxiClean at home restored everything to new!) Elevators were OK for our use but can imagine they might be slow during a more busy time. Two burners of stove did not work, but we didn't discover until the last night when we went to cook something.
